Skytrax 2006 Airline awards

Some rather surprising results this year

1. British Airways (5th)
2. Qantas Airways (2nd)
3. Cathay Pacific (1st)
4. Thai Airways (7th)
5. Emirates (3rd)
6. Qatar Airways (8th)
7. Singapore Airlines (4th)
8. ANA (10th)
9. Malaysia Airlines (6th)
10. China Airlines (16th)

BA number 1, now that really does surprise me. Also that Emirates and Singapore are so low. China Airlines has really started moving on up. Further info at http://www.worldairlineawards.com/Aw...eYear-2006.htm

Thanks Steve and yes, definately some interesting results there. I suppose we all have our own experiences of different airlines as we move around.

British Airways IMHO over three recent flights two short and one long haul shouldn't be anywhere near first. As my own flag flying carrier I feel ashamed to say that.

My company has recently struck a deal (Reduced cost percentage for confirmed seat bookings over one year) with Emirates for corporate travel from Dubai and I must admit that so far they do deserve to be somewhere nearer the top.

BA got No.1 in Business Class , and I think that clinched it for them . Yes , they have excellent "Premium" service , but the also charge a lot for it.

Quote:
In contrast to several previous year surveys, we found that the level of nominations for British Airways by their premium passengers was proportionately much higher than that of other airlines in the Top 10 rankings - clearly they are doing something right in that particular market.

Contrasting with the higher support for British Airways from their premium customers, the final rankings for Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways and Emirates were much more influenced by nominations from their Economy class customers.

BA won it on votes in their premium cabins, which are pretty good. Its all based on responses to surveys from real travellers and not what some judge perceives it to be.

Jetstar Asia won the best SE Asia regional loco airline. Never flown them, but their business model is the same as Jetstar here, and some of the feedback I've heard about them here, leaves me thinking.

Well for me it would be

1. Emirates
2. Singapore
3. Thai
4. Cathay
5. Malaysian

with BA, Air NZ and Qantas near to the botom......due to their rudeness of service....only KLM is lower for me than them............and I will never fly KLM again anywhere......sooner stay home!

Qantas have the best business beds in the sky with BA not far behind........but Singapore, Emirates + Cathay also have very good ones..........Thai are a bit hard and not quite flat enough to get a good sleep but they are there for me on their wonderful and willing service........

I always fly Thai first (despite ranking Emirates and Singapore higher allround)if I can due to their service!

I usually fly China and find them very good. Next time will be Malaysia but didn't find them very good at all on a trip out to Bali last year.

Im suprised at Malaysia being that low... Thought they were pretty good when i flew with them... Also JAL not being in there, thought they were pretty good aswell. Also i think Lufthansa are good.. Flown with them a few times (short haul mind you) and they were good and a friend has used them to go to Thailand with and thought they were great

IJ you are right about Thai intl.... The personal tv on the seats lets them down abit but that really is the only downside to Thai intl. The service is really good on them tho. Always found the staff friendly and helpful

Well if l was voting it would be based on how good the female flight attendants look.

Vote 1 Air Asia

The daily Thai Air flight out of Auckland to BKK (and the return) has them in economy.......I think it is an airbus but not sure of the model.........it is quite a bit smaller than the usual 747 out of Sydney which doesn't have them even in business.......the Auckland flight also has sleepers in business... the sydney one doesn't.....

AKL/BKK is A340-600

TG are currently doing an upgrade on their 747 fleet, which includes PTV's, but only in the front premium cabins.

Cant belive BA got first... I will admit they are second to none in premium classes but overall they are average.
I fly Thai on a regular basis due to work and find them below average. Tops for me would be Sing by miles followed by Cathay & Emirates, however Emirates vary considerably depending on cabin staff. Next long haul I'm taking is with ETIHAD, I've never flown them before so will be interested to compare their level of service.

I know people slag off british airways but really i cant see why.... I have used them a few times and to be honest the only problem i have ever had was a 20 minute delay from Heathrow to Frankfurt..... I can live with a 20 minute delay... Found them to be friendly and helpful....
