Patong Villa, best room type + other??
I've kind of decided to stay at the Patong Villa for my Phuket visit, but am having a bit of trouble deciding what kind of room to get....superior room, bungalow, or deluxe room....anyone have any opinions? I can't even seem to figure out the difference between a superior and a deluxe.
Is it necessary to make a reservation for mid-July?? Also, does a person have to pay per hour for the wireless internet, or is it free?

Hello there mistermann, i will help with what i can.
First thing is the wireless is not free, actually quite far from it at 150 baht an hour, which is rather expensive compared to across the road at 60b an hour. I have only stayed in the bungalow room, which was 2200b at songkran time, i personally did not think it was really worth it as there are other hotels with better rooms for cheaper. I also can not see any difference in the superior and delux rooms from the website, the standard rooms are currently on www.latestays.com at 800b a night, whereas the website is quoting 950 for the same room, perhaps mail them and ask for a special rate on superior/delux/bungalow, the bungalow is now at 1350b, which is not too bad. The hotel is nice and the only problem is the street to get there being full of tailors and others trying to sell you stuff, the pool is very good though. Last thing is i reckon you have no need to book at all, i just turned up at songkran which is an even busier time and got a room no problem, there were still a lot of empty rooms during my stay. enjoy your stay Simon

Thanks for the help. Ya, I was hoping the internet would be cheaper as I'm planning to bring a laptop. So there's a cafe right across the road? How far is it to walk to get a good strong cup of coffee in the morning? So do you have any other recommendations for accomodation? PV seems like the best I've found so far, I don't mind spending more money, as long as the location is good and is girl friendly....actually, wouldn't mind spending a bit more on a more luxurious place if one was out there...

PV is not a luxury hotel but it is above average and priced reasonably accordingly........a lot of us favour it due to a great location, good pool, easy going staff (despite what some posts have to say) and there are normally other BMs staying there so its a good place to catch up with each other poolside before a big night out.......oh and it is very GF too!
If you want more upmarket you generally run into GF issues......but Patong Bay Garden Resort almost across the road (beachside) is a great hotel which has it all and remains GF.....at least it was last year.......probably about 2KBHT around now (low season)

The nearest good strong cup of coffee can be had at Coffee-Lovers in the Subway Shop on the other side of the road from the PV tunnel of T-Shirts! Turn left out of the PV entrance and walk toward Bangla and keep looking for the Subway over the road.
Little cutie in there will make the coffee as she giggles and smiles (I'd forgotten to wear trousers again!) as strong as you want it and there are free papers to chill out and read. They also sell the Phuket Gazette. Whilst sitting sipping your coffee facing back to the Beach Road entrance to the Subway, glance to your right and you will see an Internet Cafe. 60Baht hour in there and good air-con. Book into a poolside room at PV and once you are there ask to look at the other rooms. If you decide one of the other varieties of room is for you, they will help you move. My missus did a stint working at Bavaria resturant just there.. Used to pick her up and had to wait while she came out precisely where that huge didgy Katoey stands trying to entice guys in for a massage..
EVERY time I pulled up he would be out like a flash 'massage.. masssage' etc.. OK all nice and friendly no the first time but then EVERY night for months !! ARRGGGHH I am here picking up my 100% female GF !! Stop hitting on me you large handed loon !!

Once was funny.. Twice got a smile.. After about a week it was annoying.. Fast forward 2 months and it was getting to me..
Had that wide staring eyes to far open thing going on.. Like a horse gone nuts.. Sometimes wondered if he/she remembered it was me each time or was away with the faries..

she came into subway after me once last songkran after I'd given her the brush off for about the 4th straight day in a row.......nicely and with a smile I might add.......
I was halfway through a 12 inch meatball sub.....absolutely true BTW......and she was making all sorts of lewd comments about helping me with the meatballs etc..........all the girls behind the counter were laughing when I looked to them for some support..........I gotta say I was genuinely embarrassed.......and for once lost for words......... so I offered the rest to her and just got up and walked out......and on the way told the subway girls that I wouldn't be seeing them again... Wow she really is a brute....and I hate being disturbed when I am sitting eating and reading the paper!!!!!....

PV good but litle differance in rooms
We have stayed at the PV a few times and have stayed in all room types. This last stay we booked the pool side bungalows which cost us 1800bht a night during May. But the room themselves all look a like. What we like is that with the pool side rooms its only about 4 steps from the fridge in your room to the pool side so its easy to keep the liquids up. I agree that you dont need to book as the 3 weeks we were there there were only at about 20% capacity, if that.
The staff are always friendly even the young thai men. The shop sellers can drive you mad as they never give up trying to get you to buy a shirt, suit or t-shirt. That said the suit guy on beach road does do a good deal but the t-shirt sellers are all over priced compared to other stalls on Beach Road. We also reckon for the little extra you pay compared to like hotels, we save on tuk tuks as the PV is so close to everything. WE also find it BG friendly as although we are a couple we on occassion would bring a friend back for the night and the staff never ever say anything or even look at you funny the next day. For that alone we always recommend the PV to others.

Good post Prestagea.........I agree with this wholeheartedly!!!
PV is a great place and you should always ask for a returning client discount.....you will always get it even if you haven't stayed there before.......I got one on my first visit....having said that BHT1400 for a bungalow room at present..........on asia rooms......to me is pretty good value for money And thanks for getting us back on thread there ..........you know how it is with Ladyboys and processed meats.............just an unavoidable topic really....55555Last edited by nelsonone : 16-06-2006 at 10:37.

I must admit I could talk about ladyboys all night as well. Next visit I gotta get me one. After two visits to LOS I still havent had the courage to take one back to the room.
