Booking LCC flights in peak season
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a problem I have with finding the 'Cheap Charlie's' ticket to Phuket in peak season.
My only chance of going to LOS this year is to travel in the absolute peak season from 22 DEC and back 13 Jan. The prices I've been able to find from CPH to HKT are ridiculous...
However I have found a good flight to Singapore. It wouldn't be a problem flying in from Sin as I am going to stay in the Phuket area for the duration of my hols, and I kind of like to transit through Changi which must be one of the best airports worldwide.
The problem is that when I search the LCC like Tiger Airways etc. and try to book a flight I'm told that they don't have any flights on these dates. Obviously that can't be true. Are they saving these flights for 'preferred customers' or could it be that it is to early to book a flight with them?
They only flight I've been able to find is to Samui with Dragon Airways - but I want to go to Phuket...
Anyone?
Best regards
Laujen

I read somewhere that they have a 6 monts limit - not sure though.
Try to send them an e-mail and ask/book.

Hi kjo2,
yeah, a very obvious solution - I wil give it a try.
I was just thinking that these airlines are like the European LCC, where you would probably never get an answer from their 'customer service department'.
As for the six months rule, I would expect that when you tried to proceed with the booking you get a message like: 'you can't book flights on this date yet' instead of the 'no flight answer'

I used a LCC last year (29th Dec). Most airlines would not let me book until around Sept/Oct IIRC. You are looking too soon and will have to wait

Id wait another couple of weeks and see if you can fly Nok air or 1-2-go.... The chances are the flights will come up on sale in the next few weeks... Generally LCC you cant book more than 6 months in advance.... Check a couple of times a week untill the flights you get come up... The chances of them all seeling out in a day or 2 for every low cost route to Phuket in the matter of a few days is slim.... But if you want to be routed via Singapore then yeah silkair is your best option i would imagine...

you're probably right.
The thing is that I would like to book the 'cph - sin' leg now as they definetly won't get cheaper, and I don't want to get stuck in Singapore for a couple of days before I can go to 'greener pastures'.
So I don't wanna book that flight until I'm certain I can get out of Singapore without resorting to bringing my bicycle and do a 'tour de singapore-malysia-thailand'.

I guess Silkair is the answer then if you want to book ASAP.
At least their website is saying they have the dates that you want. I would guess that the LCC flights around Xmas will go quickly.

I just checked silkair, it's to close to my arrival. When I have a connecting flight god allways makes sure that my suitcase is the last one to roll out¨.
I think I'll wait a couple of weeks. The current schedule of jetstar asia is perfect so I'll take my chances.
Allthough I find it bit strange that lcc carriers won't let you book six months in advance. Most companys would be very happy to recive payment well in advance of actually supplying you with their product. But I suppose it's a fickle world they operate in.
Thanks for the advice.

Your other option is if the silkair flight is quite close consider staying over in singapore the night.... get a 12 or 1 flight the next day....Ive never been to Singapore but a friend has and from what he has said it doesnt sound like a bad city to spend the night

What are you flying from CPH to SIN? If it is Singapore airlines, no prob with Silk Air as your luggage can be checked through

The flight I've been thinking about is Lufthansa which arr at 1700. the silkair dept at 1930 - I think 2.5 hours is to tight. As I recall you have to check in two hours prior to dept.
I probably have to clear immigration, and maybe they will have a new terminal for the LCC's.
The airport will probably be bursting with passengers during xmas, and that won't make it easier.

Lufthansa!? Surely fairly pricey?
Have you not considered going via UK? You should get cheap flights CPH to Gatwick then QATAR AIRWAYS and ETIHAD are only around 430 pounds return to Bangkok and are excellent to fly with.

Cheapest I could get for those dates London /Bangkok is £648.00 with Qatar, Etihad was £750.00

Do not book too early.
Sometimes LCC have promitions about 2 or 3 months before December then you can take advantage of the low fares.
Of course you must keep a look out and be fast.
