Airport Limo or Meter Teksi from Airport
Which is your prefered transportation and why?
I prefer to take the limo, pay a fix fee and go straight to hotel.

I don't go with kamikaze pilots. Those limo drivers drive like crazy. Even some bad accidents. Meter taxi is cheaper and in my opinion safer.
Price with meter taxi is 100 Baht plus the amount on the meter. For Patong that is a total of 400-450 Baht.

Taxi limo mafia is to be boycotted!!
Terrible attitude and service. Always trying to ripp anybody of for a few THB by using the hotel scam.
Often the first impression toerists have with Phuket, and often a bad one.
I support the meter taxi if needed, but I prefer my own transportation arrangements with people I know.

Out of interest how easily available are the metered taxis? Last few times i have taken the airport tax limo service, i cant remember seeing the taxis outside the arrivals area, except for maybe seeing them on the road outside the airport ?

Meter Taxi operator now has a booth in the airport car park - but you have to make it through the hotel and limo touts at the airport exit.
Definitely cheaper with the meter taxi - about half the price and no attempt to market you a hotel/jewelery or any other unwanted service.
There was talk of the meter taxi operator be allowed to have a desk inside the airport - but so far this has not happened.

You probably got a taxi from BKK or Pattaya. This has nothing to do with Phuket.

Trouble is for anyone coming here for the first time all they will see on exiting the terminal is a line of airport limo taxis and without seeing any alternative will just accept that is what they have to take.
Unless you know the meter taxis are up in the far left corner of the carpark you'll be taking the awful minibus scenic route tour or the expensive limos.
Meter taxis for me every time.

I have used the limo service on 4 occasions and only had a bad experience once. The rest of the time the driving skills shown were first class and at no point did I ever feel unsafe or at risk. Yes, they are more expensive and no, they don't always drive you to travel agents/jewellery shops. The one bad time I had was when we stopped at a travel agent and if this happens, then it's no problem - just refuse to get out of the car. In hindsight it may have been my own fault, because the driver did ask me if it was OK for him to stop at his office. I said OK, but should have said no.

Yeh I read about the meter taxi trick on this board and have always used it. When you go out, cross the car park going towards the left hand side and there they are. Got to Christins for less than 400 one time and no detours. Just make it plain that you want to go direct to wherever. Drivers details are also on display in cab if you were to have any problems but I never have.

Personally find those limo drivers speeding too hard and overtaking in dangerous places. That is why I prefer the slower taxis

Meter taxi are the best
The airport limo taxi service has at last been taken on and customers have a choice.I had one stroppy airport Limo Driver who took three of us to Patong and refused to do two drop offs - we had different hotels.
Another trick is to pull in,regardless of your protests, to their office on the Bypass Road.
The meter taxi drivers take you direct to where you want to go without all the hassle.

i allways use the same guy to get to patong. he's kinda our family-driver and drives carefully. he's been doing island-roundtrips and all that stuff. it's good to see a familiar face after a 12 hour flight. the price (500bht) is ok for me.

Whenever i go out of Europe i always email the hotel to see if they do a pick up service.... I have done this manytimes (everytime i have been in Los) apart from Tokyo Japan.... (there was a bus that runs direct from the airport and drops us of at the hotel for that one).... I think it probably costs more than what a taxi does.... But who cares... It gets me to my hotel... The driver always helps me with my suitcase and i am happy... No hassle.... Sometimes a little bit extra is well worth it..

I took a limo in Feb (hotel arranged taxi didn't show )he took me to a tourist shop....not impressed & had to tell him to slow down on a couple of occasions.
In April I took a metered taxi. (guesthouse arranged taxi didn't show ) I told the guy's there in thai that he can't stop at a tourist shop (said they don't do that) & he must drive slow otherwise I was getting out. I had no problem & would use them again.

I've used the Limo twice, the hotel arranged it for me.
I didnt have any problems with him, he didnt stop anywhere and didnt speed.
Well, everyone has their experience to share and different opinions.

Drivers in Phuket don't have the same working rythm as those in BKK. Took a cab once in BKK and the guy drove like drunk. Then he told he had to work another 2 hours and then he was off. Was 22 hours behind the wheel allready.
