Question What to do???

After setting a date finally...went down to the travel agents and realized that we'll be arriving in BKK at 10.55pm 27th September...

Not realizing until then that airport changeover is set for the 28th which begins at Midnight on the 27th...we have been told by Thai Airways that the flight will be logged in on the 28th in BKK due to it's late arrival...

Are you confused??? We are!!!

Just to throw a bit more into the mix we were planning on doing an overnighter at an airport hotel...WHICH AIRPORT??? WHAT HOTEL???

On the 28th we're flying domestic to Phuket...WHICH AIRPORT??? I can see us flying into an empty airport staying at the wrong hotel and leaving from the wrong airport!!!!!!!! Or at the very least total confusion

Mike & Marcia

Do yourself a favour and give Bangkok a miss over this period. History shows that the opening period of any new airport is utter chaos. Fly via SIN.

Relax, not a big deal.

Amari Airport hotel, while not cheap is very nice. If you land at the new airport they should have a hotel convenient to there also. Airport are like planned communities, they usually try to have all the infrastructure up and running at the same time.

But if you want to skip the possible hassles, do what stevem said and fly Singapore right into Phuket.

Thanks for that Steve...good flights...have already been thinking of going via Sin...costs remain basically the same but all we need is one more fight with Thai to get enough points for a free flight..but still don't want to be locked in by that...but the very least you can say about Thai is that they run on time mostly...

It's a toss of a coin at this stage...

SQ and TG are Star alliance, you will get your Royal Orchid points if you fly SQ to SIN, but not on MI from SIN/HKT

Thanks Steve...set the travel agent a new task...have asked them to quote us through SQ and MI through to Phuket via SIN.

As you can bet your life with murphey's law in full bloom that no matter what day, time of the year, month...that they decide to open the airport if it co-incided with our arrival it would turn into a total shitfight...one bag in China another in Greenland

I would be in the 'avoid like the plague' camp also..

Rushed handover, thai politics, the mind boggles.

Thanks again Steve...

It was really good to know that we could get Royal Orchid points by flying with SQ...didn't know that members of Star alliance got the points thought it was just Thai...That's a bonus for us!

Thanks Cybie but it's a bit of a matter of timing now...to do with Robbie's schooling...We leave two days before he finishes his school term here...and the School term begins in Thailand at the end of August...he will have already missed three weeks of the Thai first term by the time we get there and let him have a break before he begins school again...

It's a thought though the only thing we could do would be leave two or so weeks earlier...that would get him into school at the right time time also...but might be a bit of a rush for us...we've still got to organise Visas and stuff yet...

I'll run it by Mike when he wakes...it's still early here...LOL

No worries Marcia.... After all the advice you give me its my turn to contribute

It was just something that hadnt been mentioned.... And always i believe there are lots of options.... There is never any 1 way to do things..... Even if you and Mike decide to dismiss it at least it is something else for you to consider if anything

Oooops...Mike skipped a heartbeat when I mentioned this, this morning...LOL

We've had a good think about it and really have too many balls in motion now to change...we've already fu*ked our Travel Agent around with a couple of different bookings now and have accommodation confirmed will Bill at the Summer Breeze and the latest Itinerary is a good one through Singapore...This will avoid all the inevitable mucking around in BKK at this time...

The Itinerary Departs sydney at about 11.30am and gets us out of the airport in Singapore at about 6.30pm...Time for a chili crab then a good night's sleep at hotel and outa Singapore the next day to Phuket at about 1.30pm, time for a leisurely morning to get to airport and we'll get into Patong mid afternoon...Perfect!!!!!!

I can hardly wait!!!

Marcia

Steve,
I stand corrected, I was under the impression Silk Air were a full Star Alliance partner, obviously not.
For anyone thats interested here is a full list of partners you can earn Royal Orchid miles with.

Thats even better.... At least your flights are all sorted... and you dont have to worry about all the stress Bangkok airport will probably cause.... Also doesnt change your plans....Also it is good that you have that time in the morning in Singapore... No need to rush 55555...

Yeah it's all good...the only thing is that because we don't live in Sydney and 40 mins away from the local airport here we have to get up at sparrowfart, like 3.00am (crikey that's before sparrowfart) to catch a 6.30am flight out of Port Macquarie to Sydney then from then on as above...we're kinda thinking we might get really civilized and do a stopover in Sydney and stay the night at an airport hotel so it's a real walk in the park the next day just a flight to Singapore in that day...that way we can even take a lunchtime flight out of Port Macquarie and not even have to get up early!!!

Hmmmm sounding better and better to me
