Electric cost.

I´m currently looking for a place to stay for my 6 months "holiday" and today i recived a e-mail form the one of the places i have been in contact with.I was asking for a discount on a long term stay and they replied that because of the electric cost has doubled the last month due to petrol prices he coulden´t give me any discount because then he woulden´t make any money at all...Is it right that the price for electric has doubled???....Thanks.

I don't think the price of electricity has doubled... Otherwise my dad would have been complaining by now as i know our electric bill is always pretty high. Will find out from the thai office girls we have in the office and get back to you tomorrow. I'm guessing you're looking for a place in Patong?? Maybe they have different prices/systems for different areas. I know that doesn't make sense but being thailand you never know.

Electric has gone up a lot.. Doubled no but 20% min..

Also 3 phase electric is up more than normal elec.. here you also get charged more money per unti the more you use.. Kinda backwards but a low home user pays the least per unit, so a hotel or bunch of apartments, or a lace where a farang leaves the AC on a lot quicky adds up.

I am now paying 4.5 baht a unit...

How much is a unit? 1kWh?
If so that would be quite expensive As I pay about 5.5B for that here in Switzerland (not really the cheapest place on earth...)!

Yeah a kwh.. Thats for 3 phase though..

I think household rates start at around 2.8 and go up on a sliding scale as you use more.

LIL, I had a look at Wet Willies the other day (from your suggestion), and the 1-bedroom (13A I think) looked perfect for my requirements right now.

I called the manager (Marcell), but I'm still not sure whether or not I can get ADSL in the room. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would just hate to move (AGAIN!) only to find out that ADSL is not available or the line is crap.

Well theres not phone lines in most apartments I dont think but there was ADSL downstairs and wireless internet rigged.. I think they could run a ethernet cable up to a close apartment etc..

Though thats based on info from when Robb was there and the boys all stayed there so not sure whats happening now.

I also think WW apartments are fine for guy arriving.. Nice balconies, small but usable.. etc.. Would probably look at repainting them (get that done dirt cheap) and making it a bit more personal myself but they are very usable.
