Train Journeys from Bkk To Phuket

Hello
Has anyone travelled to Surat Thani from Bangkok?

If so how much did it cost, how long did it take, what time do trains depart and was it enjoyable?

The other concern is how easy it is to get a bus from Surat Thani to Phuket?

I can fly for about 800 baht with Air Asia but I would like to experience a Train journey and wonder if this is a nice one to take.

If you can get a flight for 800 baht i wouldnt even consider the train. A train and bus would probably end up costing you more and obviously take alot longer. Dont think this is right but was told the train could take up to 10 hours aswell.

Train is about 450 baht, plus add about 200 baht for the bus from phuket to surat thani. your total travel time will be about 18 hours.

Cool Flying gains you drinking time

Every hour wasted on a bus loses you valuable drinking time in your next destination.

Cannot for the life of me see why anyone would take a train/bus taking 18 hours or so in these temperatures when a flight is 1500 bahts and takes 1 hour. The journey is not that scenic, surely this would only appeal to a thai national who might not have a lot of dosh.

I think I would have a second thought on this little plan, crikey even Duncs posted on this thread, thats how gobsmacked he was!!!!!

See the start of the thread....AIR ASIA...actually there are cheaper fares

Price comparison One Way Bangkok-Phuket 15 August including all add ons...

AIR ASIA...................1122 baht
...that's the 1940 departure...fare is actually only 499 baht but +623 in taxes and fees. (15kg baggage allowance)

FLY12GO.......................1700 (20kg baggage allowance)

NOK AIR....................1750

BANGKOK AIRWAYS.....1915
