Hi!
Check out Rantee-Bay. You have to go there by boat from the main Village or by footwalk thru a jungle track. They offer basic accomodation and good food for reasonable prices. Very nice location & cheap too. I stayed there in 2003 and found it very relaxing to be off the tourist tracks. Private Beach too. For Nighttime Action they arrange you a motorboat to bring you to the village. Nice Place!

How bout nightlife or should i bring my own beer and just relax at the place instead of heading out?

Hi Nautilus!
For Nightlife you will find little to nothing special on Phi-Phi. You will be offered invitations to various Half- Dark- and Whatever moonparties which can be quite nice for one night out in Phi-Phi Village. Nothing special doh unless you want to be surrounded by masses of youngish backpackers that run around and beg you for some w**d to smoke and tell you how great this place is..
Like said i have been there 2003. Havent found a place on the Net where you can book it. It seems its not listed anywhere. On that Trip back in 2003 i have just visited Phi-Phi for a one day trip. Came to the main Village and was quite dissapointed by the big crowd of tourists there. I asked a local fisherman if he wants to drive me round the island with his boat. We stopped at several nice beaches and one of them turned out to be this little paradise. Just ask for the name i gave you and im sure the locals will point you in the right direction.
For me i would just grab a girl in Patong. Grab some Beers and Snacks and vanish to your hideout in Rantee Bay. Relax and chill and watch those fabolous sunsets. I loved it!

banger_chris,
Thank you for the info once again.
I read a lot of reviews bout Phi Phi island and the backpackers and lots of tourist seem to be a problem. No wonder hotels there charge so much. Too expensive to stay, even for one night. I dont have that kinda budget.
I will head to Patong as planned and from there ask around if anyone knows this place and proceed from there.
Besides Phi Phi, where else can i stay to relax and get away from all the crowd and noise?

Hi!
Since Phuket is THETourist Destination in and around Thailand you will find it hard to spot places where you get away from all the crowds.
Especially in Peak and High-Season most of the beaches are crowded with people. I usually miss out on the high-times and try to go to Phuket in between September and mid of November or late February which is perfect for my kind of taste.
I recently (End of Feb 06) stayed in Karon Beach (10 minutes Tuk-Tuk Ride away from Patong) in a very nice small Hotel opposites the Beach.
I also liked Khao Lak alot. Whilst it has been hit by the Tsunami very hard i enjoyed my stay this February and the beaches ,were deserted. Very few Tourists to be seen. Some very nice Bungalows and Huts located right at the beach for very little money. The Bus Ride from Phuket-City to Khao Lak is only around 1 1/2 hours for around 20 baht. You get to see a beautiful Landscape on the way there. A must see really!
Also i found Khao Lak perfect if you plan to do some diving on the nearby Similan Islands or Burma Banks. Loads of Dive Companys are located on the Main Road which give good deals on 5 Day Liveaboards with a Dive-Boat. (Around 14500 baht for a 5 Day Trip incl. meals)
Give me a PM if you need further information. I'll try to help!
cheers,
chris

PhiPhi
Hi Natilus,
I went to phiphi for a couple of days jan 06.
I went there with a TG, and we just bought the trip (minibus and ferry) from one of the small travel agencys in the center of Phuket.
When you get to the Island there be a lot of people who will sell you vouchers to the different bungalows. As I recall AC will cost a lot at Phiphi, and I don't think TV & DVD is the norm. I think the price was something like trip: 300 bath, bungalow 1500-2000 bath.
As for the people staying there - well it was just like being at home (Copenhagen, Denmark) swedish people all over the place. Not to many guys like me with a 'thai shorttime gf'.
I think it's worth going there. You can do snorkeling, diving or rent a 'long tail boat'.

I was on Phi Phi for close to a week back in Feb 06, loved every second of it. I stayed at Bayview and Banyan Villa, both can be reserved on-line. I liked Banyan the best, rooms were outstanding as they are all pretty much brand new, tv and ac in each room. Think I paid around 3,000 baht during high season. The tourist and backpackers are not a problem, no more than anywhere else. The island has plenty of peace and tranquility plus you can hire any one of the hundred long boats to take you to a secluded beach, there are ton's to choose from. My only issue with tourist was at a place called Monkey beach, I had a long boat drop me there to snorkle and hang out, when he dropped me I had the entire place to myself. Then the speedboat tours from phuket started flowing in, before long there was 10 boats and a hundred tourist on this isolated beach. Luckily my long boat guide came to my rescue and took me to a different beach.
