Does anyone know what the driving time would be between the new airport & Pattaya?

How will they do that? Thai has International flights Frankfurt - Phuket (TG921/TG921) and Frankfurt - Chiang Mai (TG923), and vice versa, same flight number from departure to final arrival point. Remember the "same flight" stickers they give you? In BKK they put domestic passengers on those flights. Are they going to dump the transit passengers in BKK, let them pick up their luggage, pass immigration, put them in a bus to the other airport and check in again?
Or are they going to fly them from one airport to the other?
Or not allow domestic passengers on those flights and just continue the domestic trip with international passengers?
This is a headache for logistics if they want to do it this way.

Thanks IJ, I did see that thread the other week but someone also mentioned 2hrs.
I'm trying to decide if it's better to use the new airport (if it's open on the 20th Sep) or the one in Pattaya (Utapoa) to Phuket.

IVE USED THE ONE IN PATTS LAST JULY...IT WAS 1K BATH AND AROUND 50 MINS TRAVEL TIME......PLUS I HAD A STOP IN SAMUI FOR 20 MINS.THE WHOLE TRAVEL TIME FROM WHEN I LEFT PHKT AIRPORT CAME TO 3 HRS AND 30 MINS......
HOPEFULLY THE NEW AIRPORT IN BKK WILL BRING THE TRAVEL TIME DOWN TO LESS THAN 2 HRS 30 MINS AND ITS CHEAPER AS WELL.
THE OLD AIRPORT [DM] WAS AROUND 2 HRS TRAVEL TO PATTS...

>>IT WAS 1K BATH AND AROUND 50 MINS TRAVEL TIME<< I paid less than 100 baht Utapao to Pattaya last time but it was in a rickety old bus that took well over an hour.

I don't see anything to be gained in flying Phuket to Utapao over Phuket-BKK-Pattaya...there's virtually no difference in travel time because of the stop in Samui and via BKK is cheaper....plus it will be even quicker when routing through the new airport.

Flying into Utapao certainly makes you appreciate the Russian presence in the area though. There were more than a dozen Russian charter airliners on the ground and even all the signs in the terminal building are in Thai, English and RUSSIAN.

Reading this , it seems there will only be a problem for 2 weeks (Sept 15th - Sept 28th). Then , all flights will arrive/depart new airport.

I'll find out the situation first hand , Phuket - Bangkok flight on the evening of 15th , then International flight early morning 16th.

What a fiasco I'm glad I'll be absolutely nowhere near Bangkok in September.
I'm sure all will be clear well before then, but the conflicting stories here are just laughable. Only in Thailand

Last night I checked with a mate who is a 744 captain with Qantas, and he said that they do not know whats going on with Bangkok as it has changed nearly every day. He just said that he is glad he is not going thru there during that period.

Hi Gents!

Have booked my tickets today. I will be arriving in BKK on the 19th of September with Thai Airways. Connecting flight 1 hour later to HKT. The thing that keeps me puzzled is if you really have to go by bus to the new Airport to catch the connectionflight to HKT. Its only 1 hour layover in BKK so i wonder how that is goint to work out? Will try to contact my Ticket Agent tomorrow and ask him first hand if he knows how this i going to work? Anyone with more infos?

cheers

55555555555 Change your flight Cliff. Go via Changi straight into HKT. I thought you liked Malaysian Airlines as well!

You could always have a vote amongst the passengers, see which airport is favourite 555555

Edit

Apologies Cliff, pretty poor taste post from me. Like Stevem, hope you have an uneventful flight.

Sorry Cliff, but I personally would not be going anywhere near the place. Hope you have a good trip regardless of what happens there.
