New Airport! Express Road? Skytrain?
Does anyone know if there is an highway or skytrain to and from the new airport. As far as i can see on my (old) Bangkok maps nothing comes close to the new airport.....
If not, it's going to be a long trip and heavy traffic to Sukhumvite when arriving at the wrong time of day.....

Here is another map for you to check out.
There is a motorway north of the airport and an expressway south of it (the bang na road) which i think is the expressway in from pattaya that will bring you at the same nana intersection as from the old airport but from the opposite direction.
I have read the taxi fares should be similar time and cost as from the old airport.
Plans are about 2 years away for a dedicated rail link.

There is the Bang Na expressway (BKK - Chonburi) close to the airport. The sky train extension is under construction and will operate in .. years.

AS STATED the bang na expressway goes directly past the new airport the new extension for the skytrain is scheduled for completion in 2008
i personally think for those who like a couple of days before flying onto phuket or samui it will now be more convenient to stay in pattaya than go into bangkok (sukhumvit road area) then you can fly on from UTAPAO airport.

Thaksin said September 15 but Air Asia and Bangkok Airways is not ready for that date, 28 Sep may be more "official". Some airlines start on 15 September.

Just pinched these pics of another website for those who will be thinking of using bus routes from the new airport.

Went on a tour of the new airport this week with employees from the new company I am working at. Since the tour was given in Thai, I missed a little bit, but the main idea is that you will have to take a shuttle bus from the parking area to the departure area and the same for arrivals. The parking area is developed as a bus/taxi depot with a mall like shopping area. The facilities and surrounding grounds are shaping up to be quite attractive.

But you will still have to haul you own luggage on and off a bus, in blistering heat after an n-hour flight and x-hours standing in the immigration queue just because the limo-cartel beat the taxi-cartel in the bribery sweepstakes.
We'll have to see what early recon. reports on the departures-taxi work-around similar to Don Muang.
I passed through On-Nut BTS last tour but failed to notice if there is any step-free access to the platforms (escalators/lifts BOTH to the ticket hall and then on up to the platforms themselves). That would be a factor if you are thinking of beating the traffic by taking a (departures) taxi to ON and then BTS to Nana or wherever.
Seriously considering skipping BKK and doing Korea/Cambodia this year.
