Did hear on the news that you couldent have any hand luggage with you on board with BA.
But Jees its good that the intelligence service is at
a level that this plans dident go thorough.
What is the next ? ?
They have to sort out the middle east problem fast
with a win/win situation for both parts if not its just getting worse
Sometimes i am glad i living up her in the cold dark north

Shit, I've got a ticket to Holland for tomorrow. All short haul European flights are cancelled till 3 p.m today. Even if they
will fly again, it will take ages until everything will be in tune again.
And I fear that such a big alert will not be for 1 day only.
pfff...anyone any experience with the Ferry from London to Holland ?

Everybody immediately thinks that the baggage handlers will then rifle through their belongings and take their "valuables". Ask yourself this, how many actual (as in real not just stories you've heard) instances do you know of where someone has had something taken from their luggage ?? I am referring to first hand accounts, not "I know a mate of a friend of my auntie Jean etc etc)
It used to make me laugh seeing what people brought on to a plane when they were flying for just 1 or 2 hours, small "wheelie" case, briefcase, laptop, suit-carrier and if female, the dreaded handbag capped it all off, although I have seen quite a few "manbags" in my time !! It's funny because they insist that everything is necessary onboard and then want to be able to put it all in the locker immediately above their head !! Obviously with many people doing this there is no room left and then they start giving a big stroppy !!
I say eleminate all but essential hand luggage and it will result in boarding times being much quicker, as well as a much quicker exit at the destination.

It certainly will release the pain to get out of the plane quicker, nothing worse then a long wait after a long flight. For bizz flights though, I'll need my laptop and a suite or two, it happend before that my luggage still is somewhere in London and I had to buy a new one, otherwise I turn up in blue jeans in front of customers

Diz when you are travelling for work you don't travel with much...but when you are going on holiday there is a bit more stuff to tote...
I agree...many people just take a rediculous amount of hand luggage on board and I've seen it all!!!
However the time when all hand luggage, other than a wallet and passport, IS ELIMINATED will be here soon enough...so your wish will come true...
JUST MORE RULES!!!!!!! Striiped naked and handed a pair of overalls to travel in and don't forget to hand your brain in!!!!!!!!

If the plot hadn't been foiled and aircraft had been blown out the sky, how would today be recalled in the future? 10-8 doesn't have quite the same ring to it as 9/11 or 7/7.

Okay, I got your drift - what would life be without humour, they could have waited until 7/11
On a more serious note, I really start to wonder what is going on, how far it goes and where it ends ?
I had a chat with a guy yesterday during a ziggy break who told me that he was invited to join the cockpit (about 10 years ago) to experience the landing. Today the same guy can not leave the UK and has to take the train (Eurostar) to Paris or Brussels in order to get home to his family in German for the weekend.
Thousands of ppl are stranded, I might not get my flight tomorrow to see my guys in Holland ...and overall, security will be even more restricted after today, so travel will be more and more of a pain. I know it's for the better and good that they are alert and interfere on time, but if this goes on like this, how does travel look like in 10 years ?
p.s.: Luckily, we always have some clever Belgiums, High IQ Guys, who can advise better. They learned that on hardcore gaming sites.

Pain in the ASS
This is the advice from Singaporeiar in the UK
URGENT ADVICE FOR TRAVELLERS FROM AIRPORTS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
10 August 2006
Travellers from airports in the UK are advised that the UK Department for Transport has advised that immediate restrictions will be placed on the carriage of handluggage on all flights from UK airports until further notice.
Accordingly, all customers on Singapore Airlines flights from London Heathrow and Manchester on 10 August 2006, and until further notice, must observe the following restrictions in items taken beyond the airport security search points:
In a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag, only the following items:
Pocket-size wallets and pocket-size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags)
Travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets)
Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (eg, diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic
Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases
Contact lens holders, without bottles of solution
For those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags)
Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes)
Tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
Keys (but no electrical key fobs). All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be X-ray screened.
Nothing may be carried in pockets. No liquids of any sort will be permitted.
Regards
Drew

YUP....
Pretty tough getting around USA, as well.
Last week, it was reported that 11 Egyptian "students", (ages 18-22), were "missing" in USA...after clearing customs at JFK. Some have been found, some are still "missing"! (let's see...9/11...how many of the terrorist's were from Egypt??? Most of them!) New reports, of course, state that government officials aren't considering theese "lost" lads, to be a threat. (To say they were, would be an admission of "stupidity" on the gov't, part)
America still allows these people, pretty free and unfettered access to our soil. (Politically correct)
But try to bring a Thai lady in...(with US sponsor)...No Way, Jose'!!!
Unreal???

Very sad state of affairs. Home grow terrorism but with a very distinctive Muslim slant. Here in Canada we have recently had 18 young men of Middle Eastern descent (but born here) charged with plotting to blow things up. Now another case in the UK (again). Are we at the point where travel restrictions need to be applied because of religious beliefs?

Good point - give it a thought.
Please, give me a world without religion, or at least one without religious fanatics.
