Motorbike Rental

Can anyone recommend a reputable company for renting a motorcycle in Patong for a couple of weeks? I have no intention of leaving a passport as collateral. I pulled the following the Canadian Embassy….Any comments! Is this a real problem?

Overnight, the motorcycle is "stolen," and the owner will hold the passport and/or demand compensation to cover the cost of replacing the bike. Usually, the bike is not properly insured and the contract stipulates that the hiring party is liable for all costs in case of damage or theft. Canadians should only rent from reputable companies, ensure that the motorcycle is correctly insured to cover damages and theft, and check the fine print of the contract carefully. Victims should report such scams to the local or Tourist Police. Canadian passports may not be used as collateral (as assurance for debts, rental of motorcycles, etc.). Travellers whose passports are inaccessible or stolen as a result of such misuse may be subject to investigation by Passport Canada and may receive limited passport services"

you may be able to rent a small m/cycle from the hotel that you stay at searanger
otherwise i wouldn,t risk it-- far too much to go wrong especially if you are involved in an accident with a thai ---nightmare!

yeh.rent it from your hotel will be safer than renting it from the road sides.you can rent it at any road side if you wish but not neccessary to give them your passport.

i gave them my country club card instate.something useless if loss but at most giev them something with your photo.

Best price I've seen lately is 100/day or 2500/month for a kickstart jobbie from the internet shop next to the Ayudha Bank on Nanai Road.

Thanks for the replies. I found a reputable operator locally with reasonably priced Honda Dreams without all the passport nonsense.
