Air Asia online booking
Tried to book seats last night for BKK-HKT on 28/3 and return on 16/4
Air Asia site was showing NO flights available between Mon 26/3 and Mon 2/4 from BKK - HKT and NO flights returning to BKK from Sun 14/4 until 17/4.
I can understand that perhaps AirAsia are not flying in the period immediately following Songkran, but to say there are no tickets in March seems very strange
Thai Air prices have shot up to 6600baht return, Bangkok Air are 5200baht and Nok Air haven't released dates for that late yet.
Suppose I'll have to be patient and wait for Nok Air to publish flights for March and April. Pity,as I wanted this sorted quickly.
Anyone else had a problem booking far ahead with AirAsia?

Well their website is taking bookings up to and including May2007 it looks to me Just seems strange they have no flights when I want them.
Maybe try some other dates and see what happens.

Ive just returned from LOS and done alot of flying about
Air Asia - BKK to HKT - fcuked up the wife's ticket, was in as 27th Sep instead of 27th Aug - they insisted we pay 590 baht to rectify their mistake
12Go - what a friggin mess they are - HKT-BKK-KKC
delayed 4 hours at HKT due to flight computer fcuked in a crummy old MD80 aircraft. Then arrived BKK to be told they had cancelled the flight from BKK to KKC, so had to wait another 4 hrs in BKK to get on a Thai Air flight to KKC which they paid for
So all in all, Ive had it with budget airlines, I will be flying Thai Air only in LOS from now on, fcuk the cost
I wont even start on my flying experience in China

I dont think you can book so far in advance.
And also, i dont normally so far ahead, cause Air Asia have good deals pooping out every now and then.
Unless that period is peak and the promotions dont apply, i will just wait about 1 or 2 weeks before the trip.
Cheers.

Just made an online purchase on Air Asia for a short 5 nights trip in Oct 06.
I also notice that from 1st Feb 07 onwards, the 500 baht payable during departure will be included in the air fare.
Will all other airlines be doing this? I find this better, then i don't have to make sure i have the 500 baht in my wallet when i get to the airport.

Are you sure ?? The 500 baht departure is the booth and isnt equiped to handle some airlines and not others.. I booked a tiger air before and it told me ALKL TAXES PAID but still had to pay at the airport.
Also its being raised to 700 baht any minute so that seems incorrect if they have just charged you.

Try to do an online booking via Air Asia site, you will see the pop up. And from the breakdown fare, i notice airport tax coming home is MYR 70.
LivinLOS, i wasnt charged, cause i am going in Oct 06. The rules only applies after Feb 1st 07
Mayb i read it wrong. Too excited bout the trip.
I think it might be true. Air Asia fares before Feb 1st on the coming back fare dont have any airport tax included.

I read somewhere that are going to collect it at ticket purchase next year, so perhaps they have finally gotten something organised.

There is a difference between Airport tax,and departure tax isn't there?
I thought all airports charged an Airport Tax,but Thailand is one of the minority countries charging a Departure Tax.
eg:LHR charges airport tax but not a departure tax whereas BKK charges both.
Air Asia are now going to join the sensible airlines and include it in their advertised price. They are however not charging departure tax as that is levied by the airport, not the airline.

Regarding Air Asia, I always got the best rates when booking 1-2 months before, the closer departure I want to booking the price has always been higher. So plan ahead and get good deals.

This is the pop up msg i got when i booked my Air Asia ticket for October 2006.
"Up to 31st January 2007 Thailand Airport Tax for International destinations is payable to the Airport Authorities in Thailand upon departure.
International departures from 01st Feb 2007 onwards, the Airport Tax will be included in the Total Amount Due payable when a booking is made via any of our booking channels. Bookings made as of 4th Sept 2006 for 01st Feb 2007 onward travel, the Airport Tax has been included in the Total Amount Due. There are no charges for the payment or collection for domestic departures as the Airport Tax has always been included in the Total Amount Due."
Example
Thu, 12/Oct/2006
Guest 29.99 MYR
Flight AK 873 13:30 Depart Phuket (HKT)
15:45 Arrive Kuala Lumpur LCCT (KUL)
Fare breakdown = 19 MYR Admin Fees
51 MYR Fuel Surcharge
Total 70 MYR
Tue, 13/Feb/2007
Guest 29.99 MYR
Flight AK 873 13:30 Depart Phuket (HKT)
15:45 Arrive Kuala Lumpur LCCT (KUL)
Fare breakdown = 19 MYR Admin Fees
51 MYR Fuel Surcharge
70 MYR Airport Tax
Total 140 MYR
Before this whenever you book Air Asia tickets for Phuket, there will be a pop up telling you to pay 500 baht upon departure, now the msg changed.
I sent an email to Air Asia to clarify this, still waiting for their reply.

I flew took quite a few flights in LOS around Songkran this year - prices were ok until a couple of days before flight when they went up.
I obviously waited until a few hours before for booking so I could pay the most

5555 Sometimes its the early bird Steve.
I'm not going to mess around waiting for AirAsia, going to book my Songkran tickets with Thai Air. With Air Asia's reputation,I'd rather pay the extra and be sure of making the connections. 6600 BKK-HKT return does hurt though

Didn't look at Thai and don't trust airAsia so was doing most of my flight with Nok - who I liked.
As far as booking TG goes, it looks like they are only booking full fare economy at the moment (only 1000baht each way more for business!) so I'd hold off - deep breath and be patient

You reckon its worth the extra 1k baht for a 1hr 20min flight Steve?
Or is it the perks at the airport?
Yes you are right about the full fare economy. Last Songkran it was 5200 for reduced economy with TG,which is OK,but its really BKKAir I prefer. Flight times are no good though

Is it worth 1K baht? well it depends ....
some of the flights from HKT have international biz class - flat bed seat with massage and big screen , etc and others have a full first class cabin sold a business (usually 747 flights) - go for these! (need to ask for a seat at the very front) - huge seat, room to roll around the floor etc ....
It's a chance to experience that kind of luxury for a small cost. For standard regional business class - it's not worth it, though the lounge in HKT now has beer whereas it used to be 'dry'. Also for a long wait might be worthwhile ...

But you never paid as you flied with Nok, according to your latest reply
When I have been late with booking for KL and thus having a high price, I have booked with MAS instead.
Still love AirAsia when I get those great prices, my best deal 1500 return to KL. (And that was I usually paid to Bangkok with AA)
