Korean Air & Dell laptops

Korean Air require you to remove batteries from Dell laptops and Apple Powerbooks before bringing them into aircraft cabin.

I wonder if any more airlines will adopt this policy?

"As a precautionary measure to ensure safe air travel, Korean Air kindly requests all passengers carrying any kind of Dell laptops (including those unaffected by recall), Apple’s iBook and Powerbook models first remove batteries from the unit before bringing them to the cabin. Until further advisory is issued, these laptops cannot be carried into the cabin if batteries are not removed. "

Quite common these days, personally I think its good to see it being implemented. There is no way airline/airport staff could check which model of laptop to see if it is listed as a concern or not. Easier to blanket ban.

Apple craptops are actually enhanced by removing the battery. They are then lighter and you can use them as food trays, or to protect your lap from spillages - a sort of low-tech napkin. Or you can play frisbee with your 'friends'* on the other side of the cabin. Those who miss the comforts of business class can use several apples to build a footrest. This ban can only be good for Apple Corpse sales.

(* Do mac lusers have friends? Thinking about it you only usually encounter them in ones or at most twos)

I'd be more worried by flying with Korean Air than a self igniting battery in a Dell laptop

Panic is spreading...

"Apple and Dell laptop owners travelling on Virgin Atlantic international flights are being asked to remove the gadget's batteries before take-off. "

Quantas too.
