Smile Can anyone please help? flights to phuket...

Hi everyone , I hope someone can help me here ....a have booked all the flights for all my friends, 8 in total with southtravel ( a london agency ) and a friend of mine has given me his full name+surname wrong , not like on his passport so the reservation had to be canceled with the agency and now there are no seats available for him at our price ( £470 ) , any of you knows how I can get him a flight to phuket leaving on the 2nd of Nov and returning on the 15of Noverber ? I have tried everything but the agency would not issue the tickets as his name of reservation will not match his passport and they now want to charge him £650. We fly from LHR via BKK @ 21.35 but he would not mind a different flight with a +/- 10% fare.....

Guys any help would really be apprecieate and free beers @ MTB for 1 night on our stay.

Have a great time....

Franco

Try Trailfinders, they are helpful. There are loads of airlines running that route so you would think that there will be options. You could also try Qantas Holidays (google it), they have an 0845 number and take direct bookings. Eva maybe? They fly from London too. I like BA as well, maybe a bit more expensive but plenty of flights.

I got caught out in the same way with Easyjet, booked a group of us and made two spelling mistakes in names; you have to be so careful with that.

Good luck sorting it out.

Has his booking already been cancelled, if so too late to do anything. Which airline?? Ring the airline direct and ask them about a name change, explain the whole situation emphasing the group booking.

Airlines are really tough now with names in bookings exactly matching passport. Some airlines allow names changes, some do not!!!.

21:35 is that Thai Airways by any chance? To be honest if you can't get the price with them and after trying Eva Air I think you've got no chance of finding an equivalent flight for roughly the same price. I think your best option is to book an indirect flight on the same day and arrange the times so that you're at least at the airport together.

IF it's that important you go on the same day that is, personally I'd just go on the day after. I think you got really unlucky with the pricing/the seats being unavailable actually, normally your friend could pick any other day of Nov and get there cheaper than you.

Do try calling the airline first, they can sometimes be quite helpful.

Cool

BA's flight leaves LHR at 21.35, so it could be them

On their website they currently quote £684 but that's to BKK so you would need to pay for another flight down to Phuket, with Nok Air etc so which adds around another £60, which means £744 to beat.

EVA Air 02/Nov 21.30 >> 15/Nov 13.10 (note daytime return flight) quotes £679 plus the £60 flight BKK/HKT = £739.

Singapore Airlines 02/Nov 22.15 >> 15/Nov 12.40 (note daytime return flight) quotes £555.80 You then need a flight to HKT which Silk Air price at £170 SIN/HKT = £725.80 but it would mean flying back to SIN on 14th and staying overnight. There might be a low cost carrier that flies back early enough for the 12.40 departture from SIN.

Not sure how you feel about going via Middle East...

this site Benz Travel Cheap Flights on-line I have used before and had no problems. They quote for flights 02/Nov to 15/Nov, LHR to BKK...
Kuwait Airways (no alcohol !!) via Kuwait £391.40
Qatar Airways via Doha £406.60
Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi £409.60
Emirates via Dubai £372.60

in each case you should then add £60 for the BKK/HKT flights.

Hope some of this helps

Guys you are just great , what would we do in our lives without forums like these ? where we can ask , help and advise others ?

This site just rocks.....

the good news is that I have found a flight leaving lhr @ 11.20 with Thai and the price is £495 all done with Travelmood.

Just awaiting confirmation of payment being taken and then we are all sorted.

Again thank you very much for all your help.

Huh? It seems you've taken offense to this.

It just seemed to me that it's unusual for somebody to get their own name wrong (both first and surname???) -- a bit funny, really. I couldn't resist poking a bit of fun but will certainly watch my P's and Q's in the future. Not intended to upset anyone.

Quite easy if you are in a rush....................... Or if you have a slip of intellegence.

Alot of people use names that don't match whats on there passport, like me! So if a friend booked a holiday for a group of us, they would most likely not use my 'real' name cos they don't know it!

Nope, no offense, no one upset. If you give out you have to be able to take it as well.

The name issue is quite easy to stuff up. Some **** travel agents/airlines even wont accept Steve as opposed to Stephen

It was a group booking, so probably the person who booked the flights was unaware of the person's full name.

I use my middle name (parents choice), but my passport shows all of my names. People give me a cheque and I have to ask them to change it as they are unaware of my first name and the bank will not accept it.

Thanks sishow, stevem and gez for your perspectives on how this type of thing might happen. It just struck me as unusual that someone booking an international flight wouldn't use the name matching the one in their passport, but I appreciate your reminders to think a little broader and consider how in the excitement and confusion of planning a group trip, assumptions could be made about this type of detail.

I have just booked tickets for a group of 6. I asked for the spelling for one of the group, and just as well I did. I was about to enter Charlie (that doesn't sound right somehow) but made a phone call to find the name was spelt Charley.
Simple and easy mistake, but could have caused a big problem with the airline/immigration.

I face "misspellings" all the time. My last name in my Danish passport is spelled with the letter "ø", which was converted to "oe" in my US name. While I almost always have to explain I have never had any problems.

Personally, I always use Raoul Duke when booking flights, I've been to over 30 countries and have never had a problem even though I don't have a passport to match the name. People seem to just just naturally respect your authority.

I went to loads of countries over about a 4 year period with my passport, including America and Thailand, but I had never signed it! Nothing was ever said to me...............

....until I went to a bank to open a new account with it!
