Cheaper Flights to Thailand now?

Does anyone think that because of the coup, airlines will be charging lower prices to encourage people to fly there, rather than being scared away?

I want to book my flight for november but now sure if i should wait a bit longer to see if prices drop??

It's a thought isn't it? I guess the scheduled airlines are going anyway, Bangkok is a major hub so the all route through there, but any charters might be a bargain.

If I was prepared to fly with Thompson or whoever, then maybe. But on a scheduled flight I can't see them coming down too much.

Don't think prices on scheduled airlines will drop , but occupancy might , so possibility of upgrade will be higher.

To make a comment either way would be pure speculation by anyone.

Plus does anyone understand the logic of pricing with international airlines? After the 9/11 hijackings, many people stopped flying around the world. Airlines then seemed to increase the cost of a flight, whilst reducing the number of flights. Not really encouraging people to fly and leaving many planes unused.

If Thai Air are anything like the hotels were after the tsunami, and passenger levels drop, the price will probably rise

Don't think the coup will have any effect on prices. I usually fly china airlines and I just checked for my trip next month, and the prices are still primarily the same. Aghhhh!!

prices have dropped big time from the US

The price for traveling to Thailand from the midwestern US had been holding steady over the last couple of months with the cheapest fare posted on Expedia 1500$ on a flight leaving in late November and coming back mid December. That same flight today is listed at 991$ on Northwestern airline. Maybe it's just a one or two day deal from that airline because it seems the other airlines, such as United, are more expensive now than they were--2500$. It's a gambling game now on whether they will go down lower. I'm thinking about asking for the vacation Monday and booking it. Hopefully it hasn't gone back up.

The best price I have found from LAX to HKT is $722 pre-tax, $960 with tax on ORBITZ. This price has been holding for about 3 weeks and is that right now.

Thats actually the oppostie of what happens Faulty, airlines over book carriage class and expect some people not to turn up but if they do then they have to upgrade lucky passengers. Passengers for upgrades, they look for well dressed single travellers, passengers with frequent flyer miles or memberships or just simply someone they like the look of, my friend used to be the upgrader for Virgin Airways. It pays to always ask as cheek sometimes gets you an upgrade as well!!!!!!

I purchased a Premium Econ on Thai a few weeks ago for Oct travel. Price today is the same. Standard Econ has gone up, but advanced booking could explain that. To me it seems that nothing has changed.

If there truly is a drop in traveling you may see fares drop 2-3 months from now, but I still doubt that.

makes no sense

One airline in the US, United, has raised their prices including going up 150$ from yesterday--now up to 2660$. Another airline is still way down at 990$. I don't get how United can be raising their prices when I would think everybody would be booking with Northwest. I'm booking tomorrow. Hope they the price is the same and they have room.

You need to take 2 of those out:

1) Well dressed
2) Someone they like the look of

When travelling I always take the "Gez" approach , smart strides and a tasteful shirt. Also , a smile goes a long way.

According to our nightly news here in Oz.....

The airlines here have been asked to drop airfares since they were recently put up due to high oil prices.
The price of oil has come down dramatically & the govt. says airlines should pass the savings onto the consumer.

We wait & see

I got return from Sydney to BKK, Thai Air economy for $864 inc. tax.
This is a good deal, but the price hadn't dropped due to the coup action.

When did you book the flight. My flight is during peak season so maybe that explains the price difference.

If you know that you want to go away for NY the trick is to book as early as possible. Tickets are available in March for Dec/Jan flights. The low cost flights last for a few weeks and then start to climb. Availability of flights gets less towards departure day as well. If you are on an indirect service, waiting time at the hub may increase.
