Safe Connecting Time
Hi,
I'm not too sure how the new airport is operating at the moment, so I'm a little worried about how much time I should give, between me landing in Bangkok and then boarding the plane to Phuket.
I have two choices right now, either 2 hours or 4 hours. I'm a little worried 2 hours might be too little, but I'm not sure.
How much time does everyone else give in-between connecting flights.
Cheers.

Depending from which airport you coming 2 hours might be a little bit optimistic....you might be able to make it but am not sure your luggage will follow

If you are able to check your luggage all the way through , and have been issued with your boarding pass for BKK - HKT , then no problem.
Also , when are you flying ???? If you have to clear immigration , collect luggage and get to Domestic Terminal and check-in(Old Airport) then it may be tight. As for new Airport , as yet I don't think anyone has done it , so no idea about timings.

Coming from Heathrow on the 6th October. I've found another flight with Thai Airways that's a bit more expensive, but it's 3.5 hours, so I might just get that one instead.
Cheers.

if you are flying with Thai all the way , LHR - BKK - HKT , then you would stay "Airside" and would have no problems with even a 1 hour break. Just ask at check-in for them to check your luggage all the way to Phuket. You will be at the new airport , so it would be good if you could post about your experience , as most BM's will never have been there.

To original question, I would plump for the 4 hours to be safe, you never know if you wiull be delayed arriving in BKK, choice of the Thai airways flight to me sounds best, as Faulty said you can check your luggage straight through, 3.5 hours plenty of time and even if delayed beyond that, thai fly every hour to HKT so you would just be put on next available flight.

I have a 1h10m transfer at BKK next week.
On my earlier flights i have always been checked in all the way. No luggage handling or immigration business at BKK airport.
I expect it to be the same this time. Since Thai Airways booked me like this i suppose they think it is realistic as well.
Although, i am eager to see the new aiport and if they are handling the logistics

You are cutting things very fine with only 1hr 10mins mbash 55555
Don't the gates close 30mins before flight time? Only needs a delay on your flight from Sweden and its a no go.
Fortunately, Thai will just put you on the next flight if its their aircraft that is late
Please post your experience of the new airport if you will. Like to know how things fare for future trips.

Exactly So either i limit my transfer time and get to Phuket quicker instead of hanging out at BKK airport. Or i get the same transfer time as if i booked it "safe". Not much of a gamble
And - i just requested a trip Stockholm-Phuket. If Thai books me this way i guess it's doable.

TG to TG transfer 1:10 connection time is fine, so long as its all the one booking.

1.10 should be OK. Domestic flights are even delayed to wait for transit pax, especially for the TG921 and TG923 ex Frankfurt.
30 minutes is not closing of gates but closing of Domestic Check-in.

I stand corrected. I didn't read the original post very well and thought it was with SAS to BKK. Apologies.

Thanks for the replies.
I'd like to query something if possible. My flight from Heathrow is with Thai. If I choose them for my connecting flight, I can get a flight with a 1h 40min wait. If these flights were booked seperately, is it still classed as 'one booking' and could I get my luggage sent straight to HKT?
If I did unfortunately miss this connection, do they really just stick you on the next flight, no questions asked?
From the available airlines, Thai is the one that best suites me timewise, so I'd like to try the 1h 40min connecting time.
Cheers.

Yes, that is sorted at check in. Thai will check your luggage thorugh the whole trip.

That is already answered. It works as everywhere - if Thai is responsible for the delay they will put you on the next available flight. Without any extra charges.
