The only neg was when you enter the restaurant you have to buy a card for either 300,500.700 or 1000 baht, you buy stuff with it and when you leave any unspent amount is given back to you, couldn't see the point of it.

Did they charge you for the card? In Germany they have something similar at football grounds where you have to buy a card and then you can buy stuff. Here they charge you 2 euros for topping up the card and then another 2 euros for the card (When you first get it) some grounds even have an expirey date. Its another way of making money out of you.... i was wondering if that was like the card you get at the resturant.

Gday, I have read that the 'official' meter-taxi price to Pattaya is 1050 baht plus around 60 baht for the motorway toll.
Haven't tested this out yet (will do so next month) but it might be worth remembering when you negotiate.

Nope, I got 300 baht card, bought a coffee, a coke and Oli had some cake came to 290bht, when leaving gave them the card and they gave me 10 baht change, just couldn't see the point, when it gets busy it means everyone has to go to the 1 cashier desk twice, it does not promote you spending more because to save going back to the cashier desk again, you are concerned with the limit not being enough instead of just shelling out a few more barties.

Standard system at many Thai food courts.. Upstairs at tesco lotus or downstairs at Big C..
I have a theory (no one has told me this so could be wrong) that I think the food court places in the concession may have to give a % of turnover / profit to the owner in rent.. This way the owner can control who is making what money and the concession has to get thier money back from the owner rather than tghe owner getting his money from the concession, changes the balance of power.

Returned from Chiang Mai last week and tried out a taxi to Nana.
First you have to get in a queue, An attendant asks where your going, he then wrote a number on a piece of paper, 167167 and gave it to me, not sure if this is a code for nana or what, he called a taxi I got in and was given a piece of paper explaining the code of practice, it says that journeys to Bangkok hotels or area have a 50Baht surcharge and you pay what is on the meter.
Journeys to other areas outside of bangkok say pattaya the cost is set by the airport company.
Anyway it only took 20mins highway charges of 25B & 40B cost on the meter of 185Baht.
Total cost 300Baht.

There is no problem walking from one level to the other, departures is on Level 4.
When i arrived at departures Tuesday night there were a number of taxi's waiting there to pick up people.
The only warning i have is that maybe some of these are like the ones at Don Muang they try to give you a price to go somewhere and will not use the meter.

I have been in and out of this airport 4 times now, plus an additional round trip from the city and back. Other than Thai Airways loosing my luggage (left in NY) and slow process of filing a claim; I have nothing but praise for this airport. Over the past 20 years I have taken over 100 flight per year and obviously been through many airports. If you dislike big airports you will definitely dislike Suvarnabhumi, but given the circumstances that is a fact of life. Everything including check-in, immigration (in and out), people movement, taxi, etc is easy. Shopping is great, the only exception being that the shopping arcade is as long as the main terminal making back tracking a journey.
I have heard stories about lack of bath rooms and seats and don't necessarily dispute them, however, at my last departure during evening BKK rush hour I asked for directions to the bath room just after I past immigration. One was right across the hallway, it was large and I was the only one in there. At the gate areas there are plenty of seats and there are lots of small restaurants in the main terminal. In the shopping area there weren't too many seats, however, that may not be where you want to hang out if you are not shopping. Compared to may world renowned airports, I think this is one of the best, this includes Copenhagen, Paris CDG, Heathrow, Brussels, Seoul, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, etc. Only Singapore may rank higher IMHO.
My vote for Suvarnabhumi is

You should count on two hours to be safe. I am sure you will find it to be much less. Luggage is the big issue. If you check it through two hours should be more than enough. If you have to claim the luggage and re-check, then two hours could be marginal.

What is the connect time of the flight you originally planned on taking. Remember that Thai Airways domestic tickets are all full fare and changeable and refundable. If, say the connect time you are aiming for is one hour you can buy a one-way. If you miss your connection take the bus and request a refund.

From the Bangkok Airways web site, they state International to Domestic minimum connection time is 2 hours. Seeing as you are not allowing this minimum time, you may/will find Bangkok Airways not too willing to assist if you miss the flight.
