Sukhumvit Accomodation.

Well, allthough this is gonna be my 9th time to LOS, and stopover in Bangkok.

I have always stayed in posh or semi posh hotels, well only one time did i stay at a very very very bad Hotel, The Rajah at Soi Nana, but only because i arrived a day to late, and only needed accom. for 1 night. Never again will i set up myself there, belive me, it was dreadfull, At one time i was actually wrestled out of bed by a 9Ft tall roach and his gang of biker rats

The other times, i have stayed at varius very good hotels, like JW Marriot, Rembrandt, and Grand President, with varius returns to Rembrandt. This was mainly because of Girlfriends, or family bussiness.

This time i will come alone, and allthough i do like nice rooms, and posh suites, good breakfast and so on, im seldom in my room, well only for sleeping baths and, well the usual passtime most of the boardmembers pursue

I am not a cheap Charlie, far from it, but why pay so much for something you use so little. So here is a question. Have any of you distinguished boardmembers had any dealings with these hotels i mention below, and have anything to say, good or bad about them.

1: Majestic Suites.
2: Leela Inn.
3: Manhattan hotel .
4: City Lodge Sukhumvit 9 hotel Bangkok.

Of course i know some of you, would recommend Nana, but been there visiting friends, its kind of rundown. Another question last time i stayed at Soi Nan, the dreadfull Rajah, i looked at a small Place called Heidelberg, unfortunate for me, the place was packed

Have anyone here, ever stayed there ? and do anyone of you have a web adress for the Heidelberg, cant seem to google it.

Thx in advance for your help

City Lodge would be struck from my list, it's old expensive and seriously loud. The traffic noise will keep you awake all night.

I have not stayed at neither hotels, however, in my research on this board and elsewhere, I found the following hotels to get the best reviews.
  • Majestic Suites
  • Majestic Grande
  • Dynasty Grande
When I go in a few days I will be staying at Majestic Suites 3 days at the beginning of by Asia trip and at the Majestic Grande the three last days of my trip.

Manhattan

I've stayed at Manhattan and the only problem I had was there was construction going on right next door that was pretty loud early in the morning. That was last year so no idea if the building next door is done yet of if there is still construction. Otherwise it's an average hotel in decent location.

Recommendation

I will be arriving BKK on 26 Oct and will be staying 5 nights at the Majestic Grande on Sukhomvit. I have had a good personal recommendation for this hotel. It is guest friendly, a good hotel and well located for Nana Plaza. I am expecting to pay apprx 3000 bt per night which is not cheap but what the hell. I will post a first hand review in approx 6 weeks time upon my return.

If you're thinking more the 1400bt a night I stayed at the Drop Inn hotel on Soi 20. A few baht in a taxi to Nana and 5 min walk to Soi Cowboy. Guest friendly, nice local bars and you get TV, minibar, nice bathroom etc etc in the room. I would go back.

Well it is not the ammount the room cost, but more the idea of spending more than 2500Bth for something you dont use that much.....

I think i will try out the Majestic Suites.

Walking distance should be around Soi Nana, since its there im gonna meet some friends. Sitting in a Taxi in Bangkok Traffic, its not my cup of tea

I have searched and searched for the Heidelberg Hotel. on the web, cant find it..it was small, cozy and right on soi 4, which is much more my style.

Have you stayed there Marc ?

I tried to book, directly from the street last November...i was delayed from Cambodia, ended up in the Rajah, which is back over the street from Heidelberg, never never book a room there, allthough, there worked a lovely isaan girl there....maybe she still does, have to take a look again

I have mailed them for a price on some fixed dates in November, lets see what happens.

BTW will be in phuket sometime during december, and will surely hit MTB.

they only have 12 rooms and the price is approx 1800 baht a night, including breakfast. You have your own key, safe, and elevator which bypasses the sign in counter. Plus the owner is a great German guy. had a couple of beers with him and he also owns a club in nana plaza which he usually gives coupons for free beer with your stay. at least everytime i'v booked there that is what I've received.

some people may not like the fact that you do not have to sign in guests because it's not as safe as having your guests leave their ID. It doesn't matter to me though.

I, admittedly, took a youngish looking girl back with me and the girl ran up and asked to look at her ID, which i didnt mind at all
