Overland from Hua Hin To Phuket.

Have anyone of the BM's travelled overland, from Hua Hin to phuket, in a minivan ?

If so, what was the cost, and are there any particulary sights on the way, one must see.

How long would such a trip take, 7-9 hours ?.

We discussed this when we were there, as did Marc26. His info was around 11 hours by road, mine was 6 but I think more like 9 or 10 looking at it.

It might be a good trip, and by the time you have gotten back to Bangkok, hung around in the airport and then got your cab at the far end, it would be around the same time.

Can't help you with costs, sorry.

6 ?? Jesus wept.. That would be going hard on a sportbike !!! Even then.. Its a long old way..

I am thinking 9 or 10 if self drive in an ok car and you know the way.. Probably 11 or 12 of you minibus and maybe change at Surat Thani (dont believe when agents say bus is direct.. Always a lie on the Samui or KPG runs)..

Never done it myself tho.. But thats looking at how far and time to Surat and then how much more there is..

..

I did think he was being ambitious.

I would look at doing it though, I had reason to go back to Bangkok so skipped it last time.

8 hours.. Well surat is 4 or 5.. Just assumed a lot more...

4k - 6k must have been private taxi marc.. I have no idea but based on KPG and Samui bus tickets I am guessing 600 - 800 baht for an AC minibus seat.. Thats plucked from thin air but have a hard time imagining more than 1000 baht for a bus ticket.

Have driven between Bangkok and Phuket numerous times. A previous quote of 7 driving hours means empty roads and high speed (and I doubt possible in a minivan). Especially the part up to Surat (or just north of it) is the worst, from there a proper highway.
Still think that you should count on at least 10 hours to Hua Hin and 12 to Bangkok. Anything faster than that is bonus.

There are two possibilites

You can go the number 4 to Ranong and cross over to Burma

or

you can go down straight and the drive thru the national park

I went down with my own car, so I do not know which agency
is going there by minivan. But there is a minivan agency in the
main road of HuaHin.

In March I hired a Phuket Airport Limousine for a ride from Padang Besar (MY border) to Phuket. I specified a VIP limo (Toyota SUV). They picked me up at the train with two drivers. 7 hours / 7000 baht. Not the cheapest but convenient and comfortable. For details contact Piyadech Chaurchalard [palbuco@yahoo.com].
