Help! Cheap Flights Jan 07?!
Hi,
I am looking to go to Samui and Phuket in early jan (2nd)... would it be cheaper to fly to bangkok and then get an internal flight/train or fly to Phuket direct and catch a ferry to Samui. Or would it be cheaper to risk doing a last minute package deal. I've had a look and prices are looking at around 600-700 pounds. I was hoping it would be about 500, or is that wishful thinking?!
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated and I'll buy you a cold one at the Mai Thai bar!

I was looking around last night for some flights for a mate and stumbled across ASDA's travel agency. You know ASDA with the Walmart people!! I didn't even know they had a travel agency.
Think the link was through ebookers and there were some good last minute bits and bobs with Etihad and Royal Jordanian (One stop in the Middle East, last time I flew I stayed for 30 months! Only kiddin') Anyway, return flights for around the 430GBP mark inclusive of taxes (I haven't got a pound sign on this PC, lots of squiggly bits!)
I was well chuffed and even patted my back pocket as I smiled to myself!
Book cheap flights, hotels, car rental, city breaks and package holidays with Opodo is worth a look too!

Thanks a good deal. Just checked TG loadings LHR/BKK, and during the period listed above, TG911 is wide open in all class most days, and the other flight TG917 is very heavy in economy nearly every day

The June 2007 Eva "deal" to Bkk checked out at £540ish which compared to current Thai and Singapore London to Phuket of £600 to £610 so isn't possibly much of a deal when you add in the Bkk to Phuket leg.
Work commitments prevent an earlier take off so I have only been comparing June rates. Hopefully will reduce post Christmas.....

The rates usually do Dave. Always a seat sale in the New Year.
£600+ in June is a crazy price to pay, whoever you fly with. Should be one of the cheapest months in the year to LOS considering its low season. Always rise in July when the kids are on holidays, but June!!

Cheapest 'all-in' price our Company travel agent could find for me in January was $1050. Manchester to Phuket return (Open ended for a year)
Seems the Arabic airlines (Royal Jordanian, Etihad, Qatar and Emirates are the cheapest at the moment (or rather, have seats available) in January.
There are some other cheap ones (look like cancellations to me) out there but I have found they are very restrictive on dates, if you have your bags packed and can move very quickly then it maybe worth it. Problem then is tieing all that up with accommodation at the other end I guess.

I hope so Roger.......
Did think that a pre-Christmas quickie could be self financing too....as my son wants computer games and buying a good number in Phuket would offset the flight cost....... gotta stop having meetings with Trading Standards staff

Main problem with one way flights is that it will cost a lot to get home again.

Yep, normally it's cheapest to get a return ticket.
I stayed in Phuket for one year in 2003, got out on a very cheap one way ticket as airline staff.
When I had to return to Denmark within the first week of January 2004 not possible to get out of Bangkok on airline staff standby ticket, so I bought a one way ticket with Singapore Airlines (BKK-SIN-FRA) for only 18000 baht, a fair price

Travelling on a one way ticket you will also need to show a visa for Thailand at checkin at London.
