Anyone flying Jetstar to Phuket?
I understand Jetstar will operate from Sydney or Melbourne from 24th November onwards.
Anyone flying Jetstar, please give a review of their long haul flight service.
I am tempted to fly Air Asia to Phuket for a couple of nights then fly Jetstar to Sydney for another round of holiday then back to Phuket for a couple of nights then back to KL. This will be done next year.
The online price looks really good.
Thank you and cheers.

I dont know what you will be expecting, but they are the low cost arm of Qantas, nothing more nothing less. The aircraft they are using are 3 year old Airbus 330-200, passed down from big brother, Qantas.
You buy your seat, you then buy your food and drink, entertainment and blankets. I dont think you'll beat it for price, for a ticket to Sydney.

I jumped on the Jetstar bandwagon when they advertised direct flights to Phuket...........I locked myself in for $1000 or thereabouts (for Jan) & that includes a dvd player or the like.........I booked over a mth or so ago & Singapore Airlines (my preferred carrier) were like $1600 at the time.
On a previous post Stevem said how he prefers to go from Syd via Singapore then Phuket.........I'm with him on that, all the way to the bank.
Too late to change now...........I shouldn't be negative, but have a feeling it's gonna be far from Singapore Airlines standards.
I will say now that I'll be using Singapore in April even before I fly Jetstar.

I agree with Easyrider. Although I don't fly Jetstar, I must say that the connection via Singapore is really smooth. Earlier this month I had the SQ flight from Amsterdam and used Tiger Airways to Phuket. Moreover, On a regular base, SQ promotes cheap flights to Phuket in combination with Silk Air, which is SQ's regional daughter.
Tiger Airways is a budget airline with really cheap rates, but they either fly early in the morning or late in the evening. Sil Air has at least 3 flights per day on more convenient times. Just check the websites regularly.
Success,
Nanook

I wouldnt be calling the connection from SQ to Tiger in SIN a really smooth transfer. Clear immigration/customs, collect bags, get bus to Budget Terminal, recheck in, clear immigration again. Alot of effort there, just connect to Silk Air, easier and shorter connection times, but you pay for the convenience.

That's true Steve, if you come from outside Singapore you have to move from terminal 2 to the new budget terminal. If you don't know it there, it can be a hassle. But the procedures in the new budget terminal go quite fast.
This time I didn't have to change, because I was already in Singapore. On the other hand, when I arrived in Singapore 2 weeks ago, it took me 20 minutes from leaving the plane until exiting the arrival hall. So not bad.

Hi Easyrider,
I'm confused why you would rather go via Singapore, when Jetstar flys direct from Sydney to Phuket!
I got return flights with jetstar from Melbourne-Sydney then direct to Phuket for $AU548 including taxes. An absoulute bargain, flying out on the 26th of March, Bring it on!!!

Yes you probably brought your tickets when they had the introductory sale on, but now Singapore Airlines is matching and even in some cases beating the Jetstar price. I'll take Singapore Airlines anyday over Jetstar thanks.

I have a problem with Jetstar in that they are devaluing aviation resources in Australia, namely staff, in forcing them all onto AWA's
The underlying plan of Mr Dixon in QF is slowly move most of Qantas mainline ops onto Jetstar, and then once this has been achieved, it will be rebranded back to Qantas. The end result will be most of Qantas mainline will then be on Jetstar AWA's at half what their real value is.
Take a A330 captain for instance, at Qantas he is on around AUD220K, under Jetstar this has dropped to around AUD150K

Fair comment!
But all I'm interested in as a consumer is value for money and good service.

Agent, I can see why you'd be shaking your head thinking..Why doesn't he wanna go direct with Jetstar.
You were one of the lucky ones getting their intro fares as Stevem stated.
My Jetstar fare is $1000.....Same same now as what you'd get with Singapore or very close to it.
The airtime is the same, even when you go Singapore & then Silkair....9hrs in total.
Don't quote me, but with Singapore airlines my check in baggage can be 30kg's.....Jetstar is 20kg's (I do know it's considerably lower than Sing)....My last 2 trips with Sing. I had 34kg in Aug (no penalty) & in Nov I had 25kg's.
When I fly with Singapore I'm usually landed in Phuket at around 5.00pm.....as opposed to 9.00ish pm.
The 45 minute transfer at Sing is good for a spot of shopping & browsing, not to mention a few ciggies & beers at Harry's Bar.
The Singapore planes are great & have the best inflight entertainment & the inclusive meals & beers are good too.....Not to forget the lovely hosties.
I will let you know my Jetstar thoughts, after I use them in Jan.
Good luck for your trip in March........If you're gonna be there for a few weeks I may bump into you before Songkran.

Just some feedback that I have been told about the first flight Sydney to Phuket. Seeing as everything is based on every passenger buying each and every onboard service they want, well delivering each of these purchased services is taking a bloody long time.
One thing is they are collecting a card (credit/medicare) of each passenger that has purchased the entertainment option. This is to ensure that you actually hand back the video player. I would have a problem with this.
Each service was taking a long time, as people that didnt pre-purchase were then purchasing onboard, which really slowed the whole process down.
After take off, it took an hour for each section of the aircraft to hand out the video players. Then it was another hour to hand out the blankets, then another hour to hand out the meals, and another hour for the drinks.
So the second meal service was delivered very late in the flight. Have heard, but been unable to confirm, but on the first Melbourne/Bangkok flight the second meal service didnt even get done, due to lack of time.
Sorry, but I will continue to fly Singapore Airlines, even if the fare is higher.

Craig , he's going to be flying Jetstar , so he's posted in the correct thread.
I'm assuming that he is flying out on the 13th of this month , otherwise he would have said so.
Perhaps he can type slower in his next post , as I know you can't read very quick .........especially if people use big words.
Hi Alex ,
welcome to the board , nice to see someone who does a bit of research and then posts an intro. How long are you going to be in Phuket ????
