Laos / Udon Thani Help Please

Hey guys, just looking for some advice and have searched the boards without joy.

A mate and me will be doing a little side mission to Vientiane and Udon Thani from December 27 till the 31st. Not much time I know but we have to be back for NYE. I'd appreciate any feedback regarding both places on the following.

Nightlife - where can we pick up some company for the long lonely nights. I can't do mingers BTW, I'd prefer to invite Mrs Palmer around if the girls weren't fit.

Udon Thani - as far as I can tell it's a pretty big region up there. Is any town better than another, would it be worth going to Khon Khoen (spelling??) or is Udon Thani OK.

Accommodation - it's always hard to get good info on hotels, but I don't mind paying a bit more for something good. A pool would be good as well. It'd be pretty important the place is GF.

Sightseeing - is there anything that can't be missed?

Thanks in advance.
Dave

dave your getting me all excited with all this talk of isaan and laos......

i cant comment on udon,as i only passed through there, all i can say as they got a nice food market near the station.........i have heard there is some hot nightlife too....good clubs full of uni chicks,im guessing same sort of vibe as KK city.
i stayed KK city for 3 days,so not a great deal of experience...... what i could make of it was thats its very laidback for a city.............i enjoyed myself thouroghly, visted a few nightclubs, which were heaving with lovely white skin city chicks, visted some nice venues, thai show, band ,music....very thai..i couldnt make out a word the comedian said,555555 .
me and my pal didnt have no probs hookin up with some local chicks.but wasnt on the p4p scene, not sure of the deal with the pole dancers in the clubs, all i know was they were feckin smokin and had quite a few friends, heard there is a Go go in KK,no doubt its worth a look.

now, vientianne........

again quiet laidback city(i suppose i compare a lot to BKk),thats sort of comes alive at night and i would say the weekends, but not saying weekday is a bad time to go,no way......
some nice places by the river and waterfall to chill and have a beer lao,but different vibe compared to LOS,defintely a lot more undercover on the girl scene, more of a hook up on the sly witha FL type get together.
on the hotel front,i run into some problems, like girls getting kicked out early doors because manager was due in,but then just done a bit of research and found some more friendly hotel shall i say,ive covered this a bit more in my round the world thread, probably some other helpful info there to on the later pages........
a place that i would love to go back to(and i dont know the name),was this hotel,it was massive, near a main road but sort of plonked in the middle of nowhere at the same time, great club on the roof, banging tunes, all added to the amazing surroundings, believe this club was only open weekends, some nice totty in there too maybe someone can shed some light on the .name
any other questions ,i'll be more than happy to try and help ya out.

I guess you mean sofitel. I would suggest Charoen Thani Princess being about 75% of the price and better service. Ans also inhouse disco. But then the big 3 are close to each other (charoen Thani, Kosa and Sofitel).

However, Khon Kaen is not Udon, both are issaan. I must say I love the laid back atmosphere in Khon Kaen (but then if I say different I get my ass kicked ). When it comes to barlife however then I understand Udon Thani is the better and more action place to go with more farang orientated bars (but can not give 1st hand info).

Thanks for the info fellers. Sounds like a FL thing which was kinda what I expected. That's OK, one of the mates is taking his farang gf along and for some reason Thai chicks just have to say hello to her (I think because because she looks like a little pixie). Anyhow the Thai girls are fascintaed by her. She's promised to do all the hard work for me haha. Still have some specific questions.

1. Does anyone know if the Charoen is GF? I read www.udonmap and it seems like this is the best option in Udon.
2. Also does anyone have the phone number of a good taxi / tuk tuk driver in Udon?

With regard to Vientiane can anyone recommend,

1. A good GF hotel with pool.
2. A good taxi or tuk tuk driver. Phone number if poss.
3. Is the Beerlao factory worth a look

I can recommend the Sofitel in KK, good beer keller.
Vientiane is VERY quiet at night. Found one night club which consisted of the locals line dancing, which is about as wild as Vientiane gets.

charoen hotel in udon is girl friendly, nice pool, and only a short stroll (3-5 minutes) to little pattaya (farang bars).
naughty nightlife is about there, not much choice in bgs (unless cobra gold is on)
thai orientated bg action is easy to find, just ask a samlor.

Billy Ray Cyrus has a lot to answer for.

Thanks, we'd kinda decided on the Charoen and that sealed it.

Great place to relax and have fun with your TG, whether she's short/long term. Clean, friendly and has swimming pool. Downside - very busy and hard to get a room. On the edge of town, just outside the ring road, so quiet area.

They have a guy who acts as taxi driver and does airport pickup, get his number and call him when you want a ride. Alternatively they have a samlor (motorised) "taxi" which takes you into town for free. Owner has a couple of cars for rent at 1,000/1,200baht a day.

Cool

Silver Reef hotel
Silver Reef Bed And Breakfast. Udonthani, Thailand.

Rumour has it that this is a good place to stay. Not stayed here myself, so best to make a decision based from looking at the website.

Have fun

Vientianne hotels -
Some of the hotels have 'clubs' attached, stayed in Anou (about US$20/night, has club inside hotel & GF) and Lane Xang (US$33/night has club outside hotel- no direct access club-hotel & I think GF but I checked in with company - this one has a pool and is better located).

Diz, cheers for the link mate, it looks really good. I think I might have been pre-sold on the Charoen but if it falls through that def looks like us. When I find the beer factory I'll post a heads up on it. I'm hoping for free samples.

tOrn, cheers also, I think we've decided on the Anou.

Cheers all for the heads up.
