more important, maid or kitchen?

I've narrowed down to 2 places to stay in Patong for the month. The one place is just a privately owned studio room with a small kitchen, pool, no maid. The other is a 21 room guesthouse with no kitchen, no pool, but maid service daily. The guesthouse does have a fridge. All other things being equal, which do you think you would choose for a month stay? I'm trying to watch my costs some. Would cooking some at home save me much over eating out, if I'm eating at the roadside stalls? What would a simple rice and chicken meal off the roadside cost me? I can't believe how hard of a time I'm having deciding between these two.

The maid would not be much of an issue for me but then niether would a kitchen (as long as there is a sink to make filter coffee without it I wouldnt last a day)..

However from the 2 you describe, one has a pool.. That would be a huge consideration for me, I love both hangover relieving, midday cool offs and midnight skinny dips.. The pool is such a luxury in this climate. Secondly (and I have no info only the hint) a private studio flat would be left more to your own than in a guesthouse ?? I like that.. Feel more like a lifestyle than living in a hotel.

Chicken rice with broth, about 30 - 40 baht depending on place, same for pork or duck rice generally. I cant cook for the price it costs to buy basic pre made.. The only time we ever really cook is when we have a BBQ and thats a social thing..

Obviously its your decision at the end ,but the pool would definately sway things for me if I were staying a month. In Phukets climate, its almost a must for me.

I don't think the fact of having no maid is a big deal either. As long as you have two sets of bedding, one at the laundry, one on the bed, and its so cheap for laundry services anyway.

Nice decision to have to make anyway. Enjoy your stay

LOL
Cooking I don't mind. Cleaning I'm less fond of.
I'd kinda like to have the maid services, but I was thinking I would get tired of having to always go out to find a meal. I may just flip a coin.

Your blood pressure must surely be way up there with all this worrying about where to stay, just book something and then enjoy the journey. It will all workout for the best and you'll have a great time where ever you are staying.

If I was a single man, I could book a place in a second and not think twice. But its the WIFE that is the problem, lol. She would prefer a 3 night vacation in a 5 star hotel, than a 2 month stay in a 2 star. So I'm trying to meet her requirements so that I don't have to hear about it for 2 solid months after we get there.
Myself, I could sleep in a tent and be kewl with it.

Your questions early on in other threads were quite poignant, but now you are asking BM's whether you would want a maid or a kitchen. How can that be answered accurately? Then, I saw one about what the water pressure is like on the 7th floor.

Everybody has their fair share of woulda, coulda, shouldas after the first trip, no matter how much pre-planning is done. But, to be honest, that's part of what makes the first trip so memorable (for me anyway).

If your wife has any problems, then upgrade to a better hotel and cut the trip short. OR, send her packing maybe. Not many people bring there farang wives, and plop right down in the middle of Patong Beach for two months. I suspect you and her might have other issues to worry about besides chicken and water pressure.

I think you should get the studio mate!
leave the wife there to clean and cook , so you can go "buying cigarettes"

e.g. Go MTB, and other places, and come home 10 in the morning

I couldnt agree more with you! I tell you, my wife drives me nuts sometimes on these long vacations. We get along great at home, but we have very different tastes on how to vacation. Hence the headaches she gives me when we go on my style vacation. I wish I could afford a 5 star place for 2 months stay. I personally could care less about needing a maid, or if the room even has a roof. My wife sees one bug in the room and i will hear about it for a week. So you're not far off when you say we have issues. VACATION ISSUES big time.

LOL If only for the fact that she is always hooked on to my hip. Luckily she is a great catch, cept for the fact that shes a bit prissy when it comes to vacationing outside the USA

Can you like hire a maid to come clean your studio or apartment on a weekly service?

If i were you, i would choose the studio and pool.

You dont normally hang out much in the room anyway, so it shouldnt be dirty.
