Thai (TG) hike domestic fares Dec 1

Flying on Thai Airways International's domestic routes will cost between 200 and 700 baht more starting 01/12/06 as the national carrier quietly raises fares to offset higher costs. The increase for trunk routes _ from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Phuket _ will be 200 baht one-way. The fare on secondary routes _ from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, Krabi, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani and Phitsanulok _ will rise by 500 baht one-way.

Competition time.

Just a coincidence , One-Two Go are starting "single price" ticket for all internal flights (+500 Baht premium for weekend flights), starting on 1st December.

Bangkok Post : Business news

Thai should rethink their fare rise or they will lose a lot of customers, especially Thai's.

Great idea Kev.

So long as you keep the undesirables at the risk factor of >5 or more off the pussy plane, I reckon you're on a winner.

If it has been ticketed, it should not be affected. A ticketed fare is a contract of carriage.

Well technically not really, its more of an intention to carry you, though in most cases you will be provided the service as expected. Where that service cannot be provide, for whatever reason, be it weather or even the carriers own fault, the carrier is under no real obligation to provide assistance.

However most major airlines do assist where possible, really only to limit bad publicity and ill feeling from the customer. Its more of a goodwill jesture from the airline.

Its a fairly common misconception, that once you have a ticket, you have to be provided the service you purchased.

It was impression that the questions was asked in the context of a booked and ticketed fare and keeping the original itinerary:

I copied this from one airlines Contract of Carriage:
No increase will be collected in cases where the ticket has been issued prior to the effective date of:
  • a change in the fare level,
  • a change in conditions governing the fare,
  • a cancellation of the fare itself.
provided that:
  1. The originating flight coupon of the ticket was issued for a specific flight at the fare in effect on the date of ticket issuance (i.e. no open tickets)
  2. The originating flight coupon of the ticket is not voluntarily changed at the passenger’s request after a fare increase has taken effect.
I don't know whether this is true for all airlines, however, I have successfully challenged more than one one the above statement. I am fully aware that airlines will try to get around their own rules when they can (if it benefit them).

i used onetwogo this time...very good and fast checkin and no hassle....they have this new ticket system, with a card, issued like a ticket.

Planes are boing, and interior nice and clean.....they almost look like BKK air, both in colour and in uniforms...dontr know if they are related though.

I will try to use them on my way back from phuket to BKK also.
