Phuket for 14 days in Jan/Feb

Hello!

This is my first post here.

I'm going to Phuket for two weeks late in january 2007. I have booked a planeticket, but no hotel/guesthouse yet.

It it hard to find rooms in Patong/karon/kata this time a year?

I was planning on Patong for my first days in Phuket (3-4 days or so, but maybe longer if I like it there), and wants to book a room in advance. I have read the theads in this forum, and decided on Green Mansion. I sent a request notifiction 24 hours ago, but haven't heard anything from them yet (besides the automatic response). Maybe they don't answer if they are full booked?

How long should I wait before I try to book another guesthouse?

And after my first few days in Patong, will I have any problem finding other guesthouse (probably in Karon or Kata, but maybe Patong if I want to stay longer than 4 days) which is not to expansive?

Thanks in advance!

(I haven't written any english in years, so you have to apologise for my spellingmistakes. ).

Hi there,

Some places I have received a quick response, sometimes it takes a few days. Late January is still the high season, but many places will still have rooms available. Definitely a good idea to book at least your first few nights. They should still answer even if fully booked.

As for guesthouses, I don't know personally about Green Mansion. Summer Breeze hotel is a BM favorite and I have stayed there and it is great. I have also stayed at Ferb Guesthouse ... a little further walk but nice. A couple others that get good reviews are Yorkshire Inn and Orchid Guesthouse.

If you haven't heard from Green Mansion in another day, send them another email. Sometimes emails disappear. If you still don't hear from them at all, try somewhere else.

Good luck and have fun.

Matt

Wow! That was fast.

Thanks!

I will wait till tomorrow before I send them an e-mail.

But: This thing I filled out, that was just a request, am I right?

Here it is: Green Mansion - Guesthouse Hotel Patong Beach Phuket Thailand

So if I'm not hearing anything I don't have to worry that their waiting for me at the airport when I have booked another room? Maybe not. I guess I have to confim my booking or something ...

When I'm there, in Patong, Karon or Kata, how do I find other hotels? Are there any signs on the street saying "room for hire" or something, or do I ask cabdrivers, in bars or whatever?

As you probably understands I'am new to this traveling-thing, and i'm going down there on my own. So I just want to get a few things straight before I'm there.

But I sure look forward to my first vistit to Thailand.

Yes, just a request. No confirmation unitil you confirm. They won't send a car to the airport unless you request and you confirm the booking.

The website for the hotel looks good and it is in a good location. Very close to the beach and only 5 minutes or so from Bangla road, which is where alot of the fun is

Easy to find other hotels ... especially in Patong, just walk around as they are everyhwere. Karon and Kata are a 15 minute or so drive from Patong. It might be good to rent a motorbike for the day and go exploring and find a place that you like. Once again, they are everywhere (just a bit further than Patong).

If you're going by yourself, stop by the Mai Thai bar on Soi Eric and introduce yourself. There should be plenty of other BM's (board members) around to give you tips ... and to have a beer with. I'll also be there in late January to early Feb.

Once again, good luck.

Matt

It took 3 days for me to get a email responce from the green mansion when I booked. Just be a little patient and it will come. If not just try again.

The email address that I send mine too, that I have just checked is:

info@thegreenmansion.com

As for going by yourself, its what most bm's do. There is sure to be someone about (???) that you will get on with. If not just do what mdt says and head down to MTB.

Have a great time!

Thank you all for answering.

I do not seem to get any response from The Green Mansion, so i decided for Yorkshire Inn.

Just one question: How big is the difference beetween "Standard Room" and "The Large Double Room"?

I don't need much. Just a clean room with a big bed, ok space and a decent shower/bath.

Standards were a "bit" claustrophobic to me ... but more than adequate. For a basic room however, the standards were fine. Also, good location and nice pool.
