hehe, No you will be changing planes

Etihad stop in Abu Dhabi and there is around 45mins wait, just time to get really cheap duty frees.
Qatar stop in Doha with around 35 mins transfer.
Your luggage will be transferred for you. Both good carriers, I ve used both.

How long is the stop for? Have a look at your tickets/confirmation and you should be able to work it out.

Both airlines have only one flight out of LHR/LGW with a connection onto BKK per day.

Not sure he has a ticket yet Gez as he quotes two airlines.

As I said Etihad is around 45/55 mins and Qatar is 35/45 mins. Not very long at all.

etihad is about 1.45 now depending on direction, Those 777 seem to fly bit faster

Qatar must have changed the timetable since I booked. There was more than one flight a day, and the stopovers were different depending on which day you travelled.

Maybe they have Gez I think there is still an overnight flight landing early am in Doha but don't know the connection time onto BKK for that flight. I was only thinking of the two flights same day.

Stop is not for refueling. You change aircraft. It's less than 1 hour usually on the way out and around 2 hours on the way back. I always use Etihad or Qatar now...both are excellent. Although travel time LON-BKK is a couple of hours longer than a nonstop flight I find the Arab flights a much more comfortable way to travel.

Certainly on the Qatar flight on the way out there is not very much time to transfer between flights especially as Doha airport can have some big queues.

As long as you are on a connecting flight on the same airline, they will try and get you through (I have seen the following plane delayed by up to 30 mins), if you do miss the connection they normally put you up in a hotel and put you on the next flight out (USUALLY!)

If you fly with Qatar Business Class, you avold the old terminal and go via the new Business/First class one which is a breeze.

On my last trip 3 weeks ago,i was to fly cork-heathrow-BKK via doha with Qatar...My aer lingus flight to London was delayed because of bad weather..
We were eventually bussed to shannon airport (2hrs30m) but by this time i had missed my 8.30pm connection in heathrow...Aerlingus paid for about 20 people who had also missed connections to stay in a hotel in london for the night...I was put on the next available flight (2pm the next day).
This was delayed by an hour but the connection in doha waited for us as there was a lot of people going to Bkk..
Finally i get to Bkk but alas my luggage does not..
I along with about 6 others go and fill out the relevent forms...(My luggage was delivered to the hotel the next day).
All this time my tgf is waiting outside with a prebooked taxi for over two hours....
A total fcuking nightmare....I was about 38 hours from my front door to my hotel in pattaya..

Apart from that Qatar are an excellent airline and ill definately travel with them in future...
In economy they have dvd players in the seats, very attentative stewardesses and good legroom(for cattle class)

Thank god for travel insurance...

How long do you have from the BKK flight landing until the KL flight departs?

Aircraft quite often make up lost time when they have been delayed, especially if they have a connecting flight to transfer luggage onto.

Who are u flying into BKK with, you need to confirm if that airline will actually check your baggage thru onto your connecting MH flight in BKK. Dont take it for granted that this will happen.

Ok ill explain ... I thinking of flying from gatwick to bangkok via qatar airlines , so ill arrive @Bkk then i was thinking of flying Air Asia to KL , so ill have to collect my luggage then check in again at BKK then fly to KL .

so really im worried firstly about a delay a gatwick menaing i miss the connecting flight to bkk which will mean i will miss my flight to KL with air asia.

or basically any delay along the way meaning i miss the air asia flight to KL , basically its cheaper for me to fly to BKK than to KL , BKK-KL is only like 2100 baht or £30 ,

Anyone have any advice for me?????

Tas

Well it probably wont be cheaper if you miss your Air Asia connection in BKK, as you'll be up for a new ticket.

If that is the case, then its cheaper to book a hotel for 1 night at the same time as your flight ticket.
By doing that, it was cheaper for me not to stay in the hotel, than buying a flight only ticket
Send me a PM and I can show you how to do it

Quite honestly, if you are that worried about missing a connection, maybe its better to just get a Malaysian Airlines flight direct to KL from London
