Flying back to Bangkok from Kuala Lumpur

Some advice on the following pse

I will at the end of the LOS stay fly for 2 to 3 days from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur and then on the 23rd I will fly from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok where the same evening I will fly back home (currently Istanbul) with Turkish airlines

First of all does AirAsia fly to the same (new airport) in Bangkok and given the possible delays how much time should I take between the flights from KL to Bangkok in order not to be completely stressed out for not catching the Bangkok-Istanbul flight

Another question: When I fly from Phuket to KL I will actually go out of Thailand (and very probably pay the BT 500) but when I'm flying back from KL to Bangkok before going to catch the flight to Istanbul do I need to actually enter the country due to using two different airlines?

Sounds very complicated

All flights are at the same airport.

I would allow 3hrs to be on the safe side. Airasia have a reputation for delays and cancellations from time to time, so be prepared for it.

Yes, you are leaving Thailand when you fly into KL so that is 500baht (going up soon to 700baht) and when re enter Thailand from KL, you will be charged again when leaving Bangkok for Istanbul. The airline you are using doesn't make a difference to the charge.

There is some info here somewhere about the exit charge from LOS being added to the ticket soon. Not sure when it comes into force.

Allow lots of time in Bangkok for your connection. On arrival in Bangkok you will need to clear immigration, collect your luggage and then checkin again for your flight to IST.

No sure, but you have to pay the departure tax again, ask when you checkin at Bangkok.

You possibly could just transit at Bangkok when you arrive from KL, if you do not go through immigration at Bangkok you won't have to pay the PSC 500 bt, but to do this you would have to get air asia to Tag your bags all the way to ISTin KL, and then go to the transfer desk at Bangkok to get you Turkish Air boarding passes. The disadvantages by doing this IMO are.
1. You have a big chance to lose you luggage. And you won't know which carrier lost it.
2. You probably won't be able to make a seat request on your flight to Turkey.

But you might save 500bt.

Perhaps you could call Turkish Air and ask if they will let you re route your ticket KL- IST 'which would be much easier for you. Even if your ticket is covered with non reroute non this non that, they still might let you and it is free to ask.

.

I guess, it is worth the 500 baht to avoid to lose your luggage and get a decent seat on a long haul flight.

This WILL NOT happen. Air Asia DO NOT have interline agreements in place, and operate a point to point operation only.

Thanks guys, I will make sure there is PLENTY of time for me to spend in the airport going through the motion.

I tried to book the airasia flights through internet but actually all went well up to the point of pushing the button to pay via creditcard but then it went pearshaped so I'll just wait till I'm in Bangkok to go to the sales desk and book it there (hope there will still be seats left)

Sorry to have bored you all to death with this question

Will hopefully see plenty of you in the MTB

Cheers, counting the hours, minutes, seconds, nano.....

Dirk
