Auto rental
During my first (and only) visit to Phuket earlier this year I found it somewhat frustrating getting transport around the island. I usually adapt well to the local public transportation but as a nubie I found getting to one beach to the other to be an expensive and/or time consuming experience. Who ever heard of all busses running to Phuket town? Why does Phuket not have a bus that loops around the island so you can jump on/jump off when and where you like? Anyway, for you regular visitors and those that live there, what do I need to know about renting an auto or a moto for a couple of days so we can see more of Phuket, especially what is not on the regular tourist routes?
Thanks in advance!

Just rent a car from Budget and bring your international driver permit/license and it should be fine, its a good way to explore more of Phuket. Budget deliver the car to your hotel. I think it is possible to get a driver aswell if you want.

Renting a motorbike is also a nice option, just beware that you have no insurance and there is a lot of accidents on this island, so if you are not used to drive motorbikes then skip it.

Looks like the Chevrolet Zafifa might do it at a pinch. Just want to go further afield than the beaches around Patong, without paying for those tuktuk mafia guys.

Plenty of choice here...
Phuket DIRECTORY - Phuket Business Directory by Category
I once rented a Toyota Wish which was a six-seater and I would recommend this if it's possible to hire. It will take 6 adults comfortably

Another nice option is using Hello Phuket Transportation. They've been in this island for more than 20 years. Call them 076-220-666
