Duty free booze

For anyone traveling into the EU and then catching a connecting flight in the EU be careful if you buy a bottle in Bkk as when you get to where your connection is you may not be able to take it onto your next flight.

I bought a bottle of Whiskey in Bkk flew to Amsterdam to get my connection to Birmingham and was advised as my whiskey was over 100ml it would not be allowed onto my connecting flight, However if I had bought my whiskey in Amsterdam they would put it into a sealed bag then i would have been ok.

It was lucky I had a carry on bag with me so I walked out of arrivals, back into departures and checked my second bag in to the hold.

This law is applicable since November 6th 2006. I was flying off to Singapore and Phuket on November 8th and there were pretty large ques in front of the gates, where they checked on these little sealed bags.

It is applicable on all EC airports and hits you especially on your departure or connecting flight. On your departure, you can buy liquids and they will give it to you in a sealed bag when you get on your plane. Even more convenient as you don't have to carry it But if your are changing planes in AMS or any other EC airport, then you will lose your tax free bought liquids, as they don't fit in these little sealed bags.
If you just fly into AMS as your final destination from any airport outside the EC and you bring your booze, then it is no problem.

On the other hand, it was great fun to see and hear those people (especially farang ladies) who tried to squeeze in loads of perfume, toothpaste, make-up stuff and even bottles of mineral water in this bag. I guess the people at those gates can easily start up their own drugstore with all the confiscated articles.

My mother got hit with this and I took it as a bit of a bloody liberty..

No fluids on planes.. Ok fair enough.. But then duty free needs to have some form of check in system.. Mum spent a fair bit of money on perfume for her and buying my missus some as a gift.. Then at boarding had it confiscated as she couldn't take fluids on the plane even though they were in sealed cellophane and fully boxed.

I would have made a royal scene and made someone check it in.. Mum isnt like me and meekly handed it over.. 2 brand new big sizes of expensive perfume.

Surely duty free inside the airport had a obligation to explain that anything purchased wasn't to be taken on the plane ??

feckin joke....

if its been checked and sealed at the prior airport, should be no problem, too right, i would of kicked up a right fuss.

ive never seem to have this problem.......but then again i fly direct to LOs

is it only when u are using an indirect flight and bypass through another 'country/check in'that this 'should occur'?

To my knowledge, if you fly directly (non-top) from any EU airport to LOS you bag with duty free liquids will be sealed and handed to you when you board the plane.
The problems will happen to those people who come from countries outside the EU and change planes at an EU airport. They run a high risk to loose their stuff when boarding their next flight.

Not necessarely. What about flying Brussels or Amsterdam to Frankfurt. I think intra Europe and even intra Schengen. You stay in transit in Frankfurt, but you have to go from one terminal to another (A to B if I am correct) through that tunnel. You pass hand luggage control again before you can go to your departure gate for your TG921 or TG923 flight. What with the bottle you bought in BRU or AMS tax free, still in a sealed plastic bag?

Am not sure about that Captain .
My feeling would be that you will loose the stuff, soin that case, I think I would buy the stuff at the FRA airport, to avoid any problem.

It should be possible to take it with you, when you have the sales clip with you, and the sales clip is not older than 24 hours. I read it somewhere in internet, maybe somebody can lookup it again and post the link here.

Anycase do not forget to take a plastic bag with a zipper with you now in your handbag. Otherwise you have to buy one at duty free now.

Otherwise take care, that you have a handbag with a enforced casing. Then you can just check in you handbag for the last few miles in terminal A.

There are posters in the alcohol and perfume shops at the airport in Bangkok, not very visible all of them but they are there, telling you that you cannot take Duty Free alcohol or perfume through transit in Copenhagen, Stockholm etc. on your way home.
Neither was I alloved to buy Tax Free alcohol when passing through Copenhagen on my way to Oslo, and was also told there that any bottles I would try to bring with me in through the security check would be confiscated by Customs.
Luckily I could buy my Tax Free in Oslo when I arrived here.
