What is the best way to get to Hawaii?
From Kuala Lumpur.
Should i just fly direct to LAX then get a connecting flight from there?
Or is there any other way? What airline should i take?
Thank you. Cheers.

Given that a large percentage of visitors to Hawaii come from Japan, I would think that going via Tokyo would be a viable and more direct option.

Thank you MrDK. I did a search on JAL website, found they fly KL-Narita-Honolulu.
Btw, do you know of any budget hotels or apartments to stay in Honolulu ?
Cheers.

According to Amadeus all routings KUL/HNL show via NRT (Tokyo), that would be the cheapest. You could also route via SYD, but that would involve a higher fare I'm sure.

It has been years since I went there. Used to go every three months for business and stayed mainly in business hotels. Generally Hawaii is on the more expensive side. Seem to recall a good (better than average) hotel chain called Outrigger Hotels, which had decent prices.

why do you want to go to Hawaii, especially Honolulu? Worst vacation I ever had. Spent 17 days on 4 islands and will never go back.
You might find some hotels and car deals but they will nickel and dime you for everything else. Food and drinks are very expensive and doing anything on the islands will cost a good deal of money also.
The scuba diving sucks there so hopefully you will not be going there for that. Lots of better places all over the Pacific, especially where you live.
The islands are beautiful and the mountain biking, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and surfing are world class but there are other places to go for those things.

Besides the cost one of the biggest problems in Hawaii is that almost all tourist come in pairs and groups and the social life (with the exception of Waikiki) is poor. In Waikiki you can be social with all the sailors and Japanese.
On the other hand if you are going to the Islands with company and don't mind the cost it is a great place, however, I wouldn't spend too much time on Oahu.

Paul,
I am sure you will like it so long as you go for what Hawaii has to offer. I have been there 10 or so time and even if most trips were business with a couple of days to spare I have enjoyed Hawaii. My favor ire island is the Big Island. If you go there make sure to spend the money on renting a 4WD like a soft-top Jeep Wrangler.

And by the way Canadiens love Florida also. They just like anywhere there is some some and temperatures above 10 degrees celsius.
lots of those people have never been anywhere else. Their idea of a good time is a little slice of America with a dash of the tropics thrown in. They want to be able to have their meal on time, play golf all day, and generally have no interest in seiing another countries culture.
Only 27% of US citizens have passports so where else are they going to go. They have no other experiences to compare Hawaii to.

Like I said it was the worst vacation I have ever had.
Lousy weather, 16 days of rain, never got above 70 degrees, diving was horrendous, worst dive trip I have ever done, food and drinks were priced at a NYC, LA hot spot prices even in just a regular bar, went out 3 nights and then just decided to stay at the hotel the whole time because like Tanman or Mr DK said very few singles around.
If you like to sit on the beach and have a waiter at your beck and call all day or sit in the pool and order drinks from the pool bar, Hawaii is for you.
I went to Hawaii when I was still a handsum man also.

This thread reminds me of a girl i met in Udon last trip.
Now this is a good girl, with good job ...... she has already married a farang and asks me if I have ever been to Hawaii (Hubby lives there), i reply yes but many years ago (about 20-25) so she tells me she is married to a man from there and he wants her to join him there, she asks me what's it like....
She then asks me what she should do, (I'm like WTF you haven't discussed it with hubby!), and it this that made jasonuk's posts more believable, no planning, no thoughts to the future just I have a farang but haven't thought about actually living with him/it

You must have had a really bad experience in Hawaii....or didn't get laid maybe?? LOL
Anyways, I have been to Hawaii and it was one of my favorite holidays. Beautiful beaches, loads of things to do, international vacationers and an amazing history. I would go back there in a heart beat. Each of the main islands have their own character and a unique landscape.
I would recommend anyone to go there. Most people that go to Hawaii end up going over and over again. Much like LOS. Once it's in your blood it's hard to get out.
I think Seafox is the only one I have ever heard report a negative experience. The only thing I can agree with there is that the weather can be very unpredicatable. Rain and cool temperatures can blow in one day and stay for a week or they can blow out followed by blue skies and a warm sun>
Either way give Hawaii another shot.... you won't be disappointed!
Cheers,
Ashley

HAwaii is far cheaper than LA regarding food and drink. Go local and you will be fine. Be a dumb tourist and spend far too much.
The Aloha vibe is cool. Very little harrasment, street vendors, hawkers, touts...you CAN relax there.
Water is great. Nice temp. Beautiful color. Great backdrop of lush mountains. Friendly people - even if they are Americans ;-)
Weather can be iffy...May is great, August is great. Go there and fiind out and get your own opinion.
It is NOT a cheap, 2nd world tourist destination for guys looking to get laid (no offense LOS) so expect somethig other than that and enjoy yourself. I've been their 8 times (married there, football games at UH, surfing on Maui and Oahu, snorkled 4 islands, seen octopus, moray eels, dolphins, whales giving birth and dozens of other great things).
As for cheap places to stay - condos on Maui and Kauai and still under $150 a night. Not cheap. Hostels are less than $50. How low can you go?

Why would i want to go to Hawaii? Answer is, i want to see Hawaii.
Too bad you had bad experience in Hawaii, but just like any traveller, each to their own. I will let you know if i like it or not when i get back.
In fact, i was there when i was very young with my parents, i don't remember much, apart fr Pearl Harbour, the pictures in the album are too yellowish and most of it are taken on the beach with me playing sand.
I know it's expensive, just for the experience, money has to be spent.
Cheers.
