Most airlines offer delayed luggage compensation when you are away from home and for each full 24-hour the luggage is delayed. That information is, however, generally not volunteered by the airline and some times you have to tell them that you know about the policy. Last time I was in BKK my luggage was left behind in New York. I had to tell them about the policy and suddenly they remembered that I would be due US$100 after the first 24 hours and US$50 for each additional 24 hours.

One time I was going to Sweden on NWA, but because of problems the flight had to set down in Oslo. Not only that, all luggage for all 300 or so passengers was left back in the states. I was like #298 in line to file a claim and rebook on another airline. I figured that I would have to stay in Oslo for at least a day before a seat could be found for passenger #298. I flagged an NWA manager and told him that I would like be re-booked and file my luggage claim in a private office. Obviously the answer was no. I told him that I would announce to all other the passengers that they were entitle to delayed luggage compensation. My issue was sorted out in no time and I was out of Oslo long before they got to the end of the line.

You will also need to submit receipts for the expenses. In BKK I bought 6 shirts at a tailor and submitted that.

You can always try, telling them you did not hold on to the receipt.

falanger have you used the return ticket ? if not read below

i flew out of heathrow about 3/4 years ago with thai to bkk
there was an accident on the motorway delaying me getting there i got a family member to call thai to explain as i got of the motorway and tryd to get to heathrow via the back roads
they told my family member if i arrive 40 mins before the flight leaves they will allow me on
i got there with about 38 mins remaining they rushed me through passport control/x-ray security had an electric kart waiting for me and rushed to the gate in time for the flight with no delay

on arrival in bkk there was a guy standing with my name on a board he askd me to follow him to the thai air desk and informed me my bag had been delayed
i thought no problem they told me it would arrive in 12 hours i gave them my bkk hotel details and of i went
out to tokyo at the then world trade centre bought lacost shirt a pair of jeans socks and skids so was alll set up
got back to the hotel after a night aroud nep and my bag was in the room

on my return to the uk i marched upto the first class check in they informed me i was an economy customer
i told them i was told to come here as they left my bag in the uk so they could upgrade me for my inconveinience
all i showed them was the left baggage recipt ( i did keep the clothes receipt)

i was informed that it was upto the flight manager i did dress a little smarter than usual
i askd for the flight manager at the boarding gate he/she was not there they took my ticket and informed i had been upgraded to buisness class
a nice touch i thought

so give it a try if you havent returned allready
i did try this the next time i flew with ba but no joy they was well on top of me but nothin ventured nothin gained
