Our beloved tuk-tuks

This dosent seem to bee my lucky days.
Was nearly killed by a tuk-tuk driver today. Was driving along rat-u-thit road on my motorike, a tuk-tuk driver came up beside me a gave me the finger. He was probably pissed because he could not pass me or something. Traffic was busy so the only thing he would achieve was taking my place in the cue.

I gave him the finger back of course. He screamed stop! stop!. i had no interest in a discussion or a fight with the imbesil so i just continued on.

He then tried to ram me into a concrete wall. I just managed to escape him by giving full speed. Then i outrun him as he was to big to keep up with me in the heavy traffic.

I remember a quote from a commercial on discovery channel: "Sometimes i just wish i had a shotgun"

Playing Dirty Harry with tuk-tuks in your current condition not so wise .... as you know these guys are like the Borg ... many units - one collective consciousness - good this story did not end differently. Take care mate.

I wouldn't mess with the tuks tuks if i were you.

I know driving or riding in Patong is not easy. Traffic is mad. Have not experienced something like you before, i wouldn't want it either.

Driving in Kuala Lumpur during peak traffic hours is pretty much like Patong for me. I try to move one side and let the faster cars pass me if there is an opening.

You're lucky you didnt end up hurt or killed.

Like K2 said, the tuk tuk are like the Borg, if they some how got your registration number, you might be marked!!

Carefull, cheers!!!

I try to never make eye contact with anyone while driving a motorbike. Sometimes though, you have to look at the oncoming folks to figure out what they are trying to do. It sure is busy out there these days.

Making a righthand turn in traffic is murderous now... You have to always look in the rear view to make sure no one is passing you on the right.

You are absolutely right of course, not worth risking your life for a stupid situation like that. But sometimes things just happens automotically.

I have to admit though that while these guys can be problematic, they have yet to not get me back home safely on many a drunken night with girl in tow...

best way to reduce congestion in patong- put 2/3 of the tuk tuks on the soccer pitch and buldoze them. They already apparently using 1 way system excuse to hike prices. the extra 2 tablespoons of fuel must be purchased from the really expensive shop!

They have raised prices by 100 baht approximately irrespective if there is any additional distance. Normally you just walked on to the next one and he would take you for the lower price, not now thwy won't.

Saw a real load of them parked on the football pitch on beach road, all the drivers in some makeshift grandstands and being spoken to by one guy with a microphone, didn't know whether it was an official meeting or just them reorganising their price cartel.

Natural reaction.... Not wise but automatic... Glad it ended as it did, could have ended much worse.

The other night, I had one take me home from Bangla. Got to the "bottom" of the street off Nanai... He wanted another 50 baht to go up the hill! What's one to do... I paid it. If alone, I wouldn't have though...

Traffic looks scary in the beginning. Its not too bad when you get used to it.

Its gotten really exciting now that they started to mix right and left hand driving
