Flights direct to phucket

Can any one suggest an international airline that offers flights direct to phucket.
I am wanting to get too and from the uk to phucket, without having to travel via bangkok, and the usual lengthy wait to get the flight back to the uk.
Not really bothered about the price of the ticket, just want to cut the travelling time to a minimum.
Thanks in advance.

Cool

I have done London to Singapore several times and found it's a much better connection than Bangkok. Changi airport has far more room to look around, sit down etc and generally a lot more "traveller friendly".

The only downside is that you fly over the top of Phuket on your way to Singapore and then come back on yourself.

With a Singapore Airlines and Silk Air connection, you can check your luggage straight through which is always nice. Can't comment on other countries/connections as I haven't done them.

Have a look at My travel airways, I know they have direct flights to Phuket from Gothenburg (flight time 13 hours) and most probably they have also from the UK.

That Thompson flight may well pick up at Gatwick after leaving Manchester; be aware of that. They are the only 'direct' flight I can think of though.

Otherwise, as Diz says, it's Singapore isn't it? But a longer trip I think.

Read today (can't find where now) that rights are being finalised for some middle east carriers to start flying direct to Phuket in the near future.

Would much prefer to have a stopover in ME somewhere, at about 6 hours, rather than direct to BKK for 11 hours then a short hop to Phuket.

Best two I have found are Sri Lankan airlines which do a Gatwick Columbo flight, then bounce into Phuket, or Malaysian, who also do a Gatwick run down to Kuala L and again another flight into Phuket.

Apart from the bucket shop (and seat) charters, very few fly direct into Phuket - International airport or not, that One two Go Jumbo appears to have been sitting on the tarmac there for about the last 5 years. Don't know how they got it there, but doubt it has enough runway to take off again, or if it is even real.............the two we saw at Bangkok only had three engines between them.......!

I reckon they road hauled the thing down there and built it in situ, just to give the visitor the impression the airport was bigger than it really is.....555555555555555555

No, your right SteveM

The flight to Columbo was with Sri-Lankan and then a quick hope, skip and a jump onto another plane (am guessing one of their affiliates) onto Phucket.

Used Sri-lankan as the example as the flight details were shone as going to Phulet on their web-site, but guessed they were using another carrier for the short haul

I think the airport can handle them, I'm pretty sure Thai fly 747s down to Phuket?

Sure they can, but you wont see 747's departing HKT for a long mission, like non stop back to Europe. There just isnt enough hard black stuff.

Ah, ok, I would have sworn I had been on one from Bangkok, but longhaul ones can't use it? Makes sense now.

If you look at the aircraft in the Thai Air schedule running between BKK-HKT-BKK then there are a couple of 747 flights a day IIRC.

BKK - AUH B777-300ER Pearl Zone Business class with Etihad. I like it a lot but couldnt warrant the difference in price to Coral (economy)

No, I agree guys, obviously they do land and take em off there, otherwise Phuket wouldn't be an int'l airport, but I am always amased, each time I fly into or outa there at how short the runway is and just how close it is to not only a mountain range, but also a darn big expanse called the ocean 55555555555555

Yeah, I know they land 74's there, but I would hate to be one of the pilote trying to get one of those birds back in the air again - BNK is a different kettle, they have two and a half miles of hard black stuff to play with, but not down in Phukers....

The airlines are coming out with some nice new products with the 777-300ER deliveries. I dont particularly like the cocoon concept of seating, but it seem to be the way everything is going.

The runway length at HKT is 8,200 feet, and rough as guts. A 747-400 at MTOW (there are lots of other variables in the equation) requires around 10,100 feet to depart. As HKT is always so hot and humid, this has a major effect on aircraft.

I flew in the cocoon style seating a year ago New York - Seoul and back on Korean Air. I loved it. Especially nice if you fly alone - single seating at the window.

We have a 9,780 foot runway back home. The second busiest airport in Europe (Per aircraft per minute) We also have some terrific wind currents sweeping up off the atlanic currents, which could launch a man ten feet into the air without the need for any form of additional support, thrust or stabilisation sources, but we would (and never have) entertained the concept of landing a 747 on our runway.

Concorde used to do the occasional kiss down (touch wheels whilst still powered up, then pull up again) purely for the kudos of saying she had touched down here, and obviously for the sad morons who had paid a fortune for the 20 minute thrill of (bouncing) just for the thrill and expense of it, but never has anyone been stupid,ignorant-or perhaps brave enough to entertain landing a 7 40 or worse still considering the options of getting one back up again, had thay tried, from our runway.....

Cause if they fail to get her airborn again, it's a 600 foot downward idrop into a very non forgiving pile of solid granite...

Admittedly the CAA regulations of whats right/wrong/proper/safe etc... are somewhat different to what the Thai's consider acceptable but even so, the poor pilots must sh*t themselves when powering up down Phuket runway and praying to Buddah that the darn thing will gain sufficient thrust to get them off the ground before Neptune rises up to swallow them whole - even if they don't announce this over the tannot to the passengers moments before they shriek 'Oh Sh*t'

Fair play to them..55555555555....they get away with it...
