Bear in mind if you do prebook and you miss the flight, tough!!! You'll need to buy another ticket.

I see your flying into BKK on Thai, why would you not book straight thru to HKT with them. No worries with tranfser, no recheckin, and no worries about missing the flight. So much easier, just to save a few bucks.

Simple answer is yes dazza if the flights are not already full.
You have 2 flights after your arrival 18.45 and 21.10, If you land at 16.00 the earliest you will get to the desk will be 16.30 if you know where your going but it could easily be 17.30 so you will be lucky to catch the 18.45.
Id book ahead if I was you either on the air asia website or Thai Air and have your bags put through and do immigration in Phuket.

She can still checkin for Thai and meet you onboard.
Another problem to keep in mind, if they go ahead with the hair brain scheme of reopening Don Muang, then if you are flying Air Asia to HKT, you'll also be up for a taxi/bus ride across town, which will add heaps to your connecting time.

Looks like your options are more limited then as if you book on the internet in advance for both of you, you will have to more certainly be with her when she books in as the credit card holder.

Last report I read, Air Asia are adamant they will carry on using the new airport and not go back to Don Muang.
Mind you, thats not to say they won't be forced into using the old one.
