British Airways crew to strike Jan29-31

British Airways crew to strike - Yahoo! News UK

Its a few days old news, but they plan to start on jan29-31 with options in feb as well.

Not sure how, if at all, this affects other airlines leaving from the UK? (airports baint my area of expertise)
Hopefully i'll slide through heathrow with minimum of fuss regardless on Thai Air..

I detest them for this. They cause us endless hours of misery and then expect us to sympathise with their cause. Not in this lifetime.

While I'm against any form of strike action, hate unions and see no use for them. The BA cabin crew have been getting screwed big time by management. But dont worry there's also talk of pilots striking as well.

Planned strike dates, so far:- January 29, 30 and 31;
February 5, 6 and 7;
and February 12, 13 and 14.

It seems to me that the BA management have acted in a very heavy handed way to put in place needed policies to reduce staff costs.

They also haven't paid any dividends to their shareholders in several years, but shares are doing well.

Living in the US BMI may not be my best choice (have over 1.5M unused miles with another airline). Glad to hear they are recommended though, never flown them before.

My recommendation has nothing to do with flying with then (though i sometimes do) - more as the best place to put your miles

I will think of you when I pass the BA counters on my way to an airline that is flying (if the strike goes on).

A quote in one of the London newspapers today gives a bit of worrying news for all travelers going through Heathrow. Don't know how much effect it will have but thought it worth pointing out.

Quote:
From London Evening Standard

Heathrow will be turned into a giant aircraft "car park", causing serious disruption for travelers using other airlines. A senior Heathrow source said "It will be chaos. All travelers are in for a very bad time".

Could just be scaremongering but anyone flying out may want to check for delays.

Just on the BBC 6 oclock News, the strike on Tuesday 30th will go ahead after a vote of cabin staff.. Around six short haul BA flights will depart from Gatwick, and only a few long haul flights will land.

PaulUK,

I am reasonably confident that you should have no problems with your flight. Although the BA strike will have an effect on that day (1st Feb), almost all of their flights are from Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 at Heathrow ... your flight will be operating from Terminal 3.

There is quite a lot of spare space at Heathrow for aircraft to be parked-up (ie, during the strike), and BA have a large maintenance area which they can also use for aircraft parking. One thing that BA will try to do is to move their aircraft to their own parking area, because if they are left parked at the Terminal(s) then BA will have to pay the fees.

PaulUK, your flight is TG911, departing from Heathrow at 11.45am, and it gets into BKK at about 7am (local BKK time) the following morning.

[I work for the company that handles Thai Airways at Heathrow, and as I'm working on 1st Feb there is a chance that I might be loading the aircraft that you're flying on.]
