Personally I would recommend ATM.
Traveller cheques from Visa, MC and Amex can readily be cashed

I think travellers cheques are becoming a thing of the past. I plan to take 3 cards I can use in ATM's and will keep then as separate as I can, especially when I am carrying them.

The same can be said of postcards. With email and texting they are just not used as much anymore.

I always have alot of T.C as a back up, or if im bringing alot of money out.

Which one to use from UK? I tend to order from Nationwide as no-commission and only minimal delievery charge.

I have had problems in the past with mastercard ones, a couple of banks here refused to accept them or had to phone head office to get permission.

On another related issue, be careful which bank you cash them at, as some charge commision, some don't. Found one the other week that charges 9%.

I posted this about a year ago:-
"OK these charges are based on NatWest Bank for £1000.

Travellers cheques (10 x £100) buy fee £10 exchange commission + stamp duty in Thailand £4.75 - Total £14.75

Amex travellers cheque card £15 set up fee + £1.50 for every ATM withdrawal. The card has to be renewed after 3 years for a £5 or it will cost you £8 to redeem your card. Say 5 withdrawals of £200 will cost you £7.50. Lets split the set up fee over three years and the total comes to £12.50

Maestro 2.25% commission and 75p per ATM withdrawal - say 5 withdrawals of £200 = £26.25.

So it looks like if you do a lot of travelling abroad, the Amex travellers cheque card is a worthwhile purchase. Travellers cheques work out cheaper than the Maestro card, but are more hassle (you have to work out your budget, order the cheques, collect them, take passport with you to exchange them)."

It all depends on who you bank with, and what their charges are. Do a bit of research on UK bank charges and work out whats best for you.

would'nt bother with the travellers cheques. as other BM's have said,
an atm card and another as back up you can keep in hotel/room safe.

works well for me.

I'll second this, best way to go - take other atm cards as backup plus a little cash.
