"OK these charges are based on NatWest Bank for £1000.
Travellers cheques (10 x £100) buy fee £10 exchange commission + stamp duty in Thailand £4.75 - Total £14.75
Amex travellers cheque card £15 set up fee + £1.50 for every ATM withdrawal. The card has to be renewed after 3 years for a £5 or it will cost you £8 to redeem your card. Say 5 withdrawals of £200 will cost you £7.50. Lets split the set up fee over three years and the total comes to £12.50
Maestro 2.25% commission and 75p per ATM withdrawal - say 5 withdrawals of £200 = £26.25.
So it looks like if you do a lot of travelling abroad, the Amex travellers cheque card is a worthwhile purchase. Travellers cheques work out cheaper than the Maestro card, but are more hassle (you have to work out your budget, order the cheques, collect them, take passport with you to exchange them)."
It all depends on who you bank with, and what their charges are. Do a bit of research on UK bank charges and work out whats best for you.
