Soi Sansabai - Traffic increasing?
A mate just came back from Patong. He stayed in Soi Sansabai as usual. Now he told me that the traffic (and noise) in SS seemed to be at least doubled compared to past holidays. The reason for this could be the introdution of zonic traffic conditions (one-way-traffic) on the main road circle. For this reason now mainly motorbikes try to use the SS as a shortcut.
Anybody here with similar expieriences lately?

I was just there yesterday and was thinking the same thing when I saw a tuk tuk or two drive through and a lot of motorbikes. I didn't hang out there very long (just long enough to park) but it certainly did seem busy.
By the way, I liked the new 1-way system. It has a few problems, like at the Kamala end of Beach Road and it is definitely harder to cross the street as a pedestrian, but overall it did seem faster.
Cheers

Before Sansabi was a dead end with some car parking at the end.
Now it is opened up. So Sansabi is now a main through street from Rat-U-Tit to Nanai. Really sucks if you try and park back there now.

Town is changing..Sansabai is now part of the through roads that will link up with Both Nanai and the new planned through Rd and cutting behind Jungceylon and Baanzaan..
So its not only the one way system effecting it.. Its as much the spreading of town and that road becoming a route to other places..

It should be referred to as "speedway sans sabai"
Be careful when you're walking down there.

I'm happy they've opened up access to the new JungCeylon Road - dont have to go on Rat-U-Thit Road anymore which has become a very dangerous rat run - least they could do is put some speed bumps between Tai-Pan/Rio so people can get a chance to X the road.
San Sabai now is choked with M/C parking 3 layers deep - why the hotels allow this is hard to believe when 10B parking is available. This road needs to be turned into a major Rd as the JungCeylon Rd is a bit too circuitous.
I'd be even happier if the break through behind Valhalla into Soi Sunset, and now Galaxy gone they have chance make a decent connecting Soi.
This one-way system is NOT an improvement - hope its scraped ASAP!

Do not think the noise wil be too much of a problem but there is and will be more traffic on soi san sabai, I use it to cut back to sai nam yen/nanai rather than go all round town on the one way system, so from pure logic of if i've started using it as a short cut so must others.

I took a tuk tuk from Bangla and he crossed rat-u-thit and into sansabai and then the new road to sai nam yen. Instead of driving a lap around Patong. I was charged 200 baht, strange as the new ride was not any longer than before.
But I agree with Easyrider, walking on Sansabai is not so easy anymore with the added traffic and triple layers of motorbikes late nights.
I park at the back of sansabai for 10 baht now every day, that parking lot also got pretty full now.
But another reason is that there is a lot more traffic in general these days, afternoon always have queues when you want drive out from Patong if you come from Sai Nam Yen/Phisitkoranee road. Can be 100+ meters queue, which I never saw before.

Like it or not
Soi Sans Sabai is now the through road to Nanai via the market.
There still are two areas for parking between Sans Sabai and the Jungceylon road. They should be used.
The only thing that will improve Sans Sabai is that they should now make it a totally no parking zone.Patrons of the hotels can use the two car parks mentioned above.
The new one way system has its critics but what would greatly help would be the widening and completion of the north south by pass/Jungceylon Road.

I like walking really, really slowly down San Sabai in the middle of the road with that 'I've not got a care in the world' attitude and occasionally bending down to fasten the laces on my flip-flops. Really rubs drivers up the wrong way and like they are going to drive into me without leaving a dent in thier bull-bars! 5555555555...............OK, I'll get my coat! Tch!!

The combo of one way system, sansabi through way, and very limited sansabi car parking is really getting on my nerves.
Hooking up with a buddy tonight, he is coming into patong via Kathu and me via Karon. We spent 5 minutes discussing our strategies to make it to some possible parking spots. Left the car near the new food market on the by-pass road. Took a motorbike taxi from there. 10-15 minutes now added to my door-to-drink time. Same fun on the return home.
I liked it better before. Getting to the point where a few of us are thinking of just hiring a driver on nights out. Bonus upside: if a motorbike gets run down, it's on the driver.
