Tiger airways in and from OZ
Tiger Airways to roar in domestic market
09/02/2007 09:10:30 AM
International low cost carrier Tiger Airways has announced its intention to enter the Australian domestic market and is seeking federal approval to do so.
Tiger Airways chief executive officer Tony Davis said the Singapore-based carrier would seek to aggressively compete with Qantas and Virgin Blue.
"Fares are too high in Australia. We see the opportunity to deliver consistently low fares on all our routes," Mr Davis said.
"Unlike others in this market, we won't be a low cost airline selling high fares. We'll be low cost and very low fare," he said
Tiger Airways said its business model would be based on the successful low cost European carrier, Ryanair, whose founders had a stake in Tiger.
"We certainly benefit from the experience and knowledge available to us through having the Ryan family as investors in Tiger Airways," Mr Davis said.
The company met with federal ministers in Canberra on Thursday and said it had already advised the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Foreign Investment Review Board of its plans.
Tiger already flies four times a week between Darwin and Singapore and will open a Perth-Singapore route on March 23.

I flew Tiger from Singapore to HKT last year. There is no seat allocation. Parents/kids/elderly loaded first, then the rest. You queue in a fenced off area like cattle to get onboard, but it was very cheap. Hope they start a BNE to SIN service.

I had every intention of flying tiger perth to sin - phuket the end of next month .found good price and filled out required info on the puter but thats as far as it got something went wrong at there end and I got no response, So I decided to fly singapore airlines I payed a bit more but ,think I would rather pay the extra and arrive happy ,fed and with a few drinks under my belt .Plus avoid sitting around changi for hours waiting for the next flight to phuket. But thats just me ..no doubt they have some great prices though!

I have booked to fly at Easter $895aud SIA $1160 saving of $530 for two but travelling at different times they are as low as $369aud return. Less leg room and no feed but with a departure at 9.30pm this is not so important. However 2.50am arrival with a 7am departure to Phuket is a worry, does anyone know what happens at the lcc terminal in Singapore between 3am and 6am? Not much I guess

Hi Aussie, Tiger operate out of the new Budget Terminal in Singapore. Not too many facilities. Take a book...

Anyone have any updates on Tiger airways??
Was looking to book a flight in july-- August @ $A770.00 all in.(Pth- Sing-Hkt-Sing-Pth). Can you at least buy drinks and stuff on the flight as one of my mates is not a good flier and needs a bit of courage???!!!!
As it looks like a 4 hour layover in Sing-- is there anything to do at the airport??? Can you get to the "normal" terminal easily???
Just asking to find out if it is worth spending the extra $A400 going on Thai or Sing Airlines.

Yes, as pointed out, you can buy food and drink on the flight. Food quality is pretty average.
Not much to do at the airport. There is a Han's Cafe in the check-in area, which is open 24 hours. And seating. That's basically it until you check in (2 hours before flight). Once you check-in, you can move into Departures area, which has a better range of shops, a couple of TVs, and free internet terminal.
Free shuttle bus runs from budget terminal to Changi airport. I think it takes ~ 10 minutes.

Just did Perth- Sin - BKK return last weekend with them. Good service. Be warned though that the seats are close together, and I do mean close together. If you are over 6' it is gonna be a cramped flight. Get an aisle seat if you can when you check in and throw some sleeping pills down your throat and 5 hours will go in a flash.
The place lands at the low cost terminal at changi and it is ok for a stopover. You can get a free shuttle bus to the main terminals from just outside the front door at arrivals. takes about 10 minutes to get there but be warned you cant get beyond the departure gates so you are confined to the public arrivals and departures hall, which are ok for a look and to get a feed and kill some time but not much else. Your probably better off staying in LCC terminal as it has food and drink and duty free if that is what you are after. If you want to have a sleep check yourself through into the transit area and there are some nice soft seats with plenty of room to stretch out and have a snooze.
Yep you can get as many drinks as you want on the plane, paying for them of course. And there is reasonable food available on there as well.
$770 all in is pretty high. I just paid $443 all in return to BKK with them, have another trip booked in October for $410 all in and have just booked Perth-Sin-Hkt return next March for $ 463. Play around with the dates you are going and you will see some big differences. Also think about booking Perth-Sin _Perth as one booking and then Sin-Pkt-Sin immediately after as another. Thats how I got the cheap trip last weekend to BKK.

That is all good advice from hagler.
Yep, around $A450 for a return Perth-Singapore-Phuket fare should be readily achievable if you book well in advance.
If you are a tall person like me, it is definitely worth forking out an extra $S25 and reserving one of the emergency exit seats. Legroom on those seats is quite decent.

Thanks guys!!!!
Unfortunately I can't paly around with the dates, as there are 5 other people coming with me and they all have to book holidays from work etc.
Will have a look at booking the trip as 2 seperate legs and see what happens!!!
One other question..... do you have to collect your baggage in Sing, then check it back in when going on to HKT???? If yes, then 2 seperate legs is well worthwhile looking at!!!

Yep you have to picj up your luggage and then check it in again. I only ever go to LOS with carry -on so I can comment on time taken to check in and out luggage but the LCC terminal is so small so it shouldnt be a problem at all.
Be warned though that they are RUTHLESS at Perth when checking in about your baggage allowance. I have seen heaps of people having little hissy fits at the check-in counter and then having to pay up for anything over the 15kg allowance or for anything that is outside normal size for baggage. At the Thai end though it is the usual madness that goes with luggage on any airline flying out of LOS and anything goes...

I was able to choose seats on thier internet site. They're at a different terminal at SIN though. Catch a tram to terminal 2, then down to basement and catch a bust to budget terminal. Is a 24 hour diner in that terminal that makes a great cup of coffee.

I flew with Tiger four times earlier this year and each time they gave me a boarding ticket with a seat number marked on it. I think it is only a very small number of airports that do not have seat allocation with Tiger.
Yes you can reserve your seat on their webiste - there is a modest charge for doing this.
