Best way from Phuket to Koh Phangan?
Hello - I was wondering if anyone could give their opinion on the best way to travel from Phuket to Koh Phangan. I'm staying in the Chalong area and have only a motorbike for transportation. Thanks for any help - db

Best.. Probably fly to Samui and speedboat to Phangan.. Definately most expensive..
Otherwise minibus from Phuket to Surat (connect and hang around) then to ferry port.. Then fast ferry to Phangan..
Depending on the motorbike you could ride to Surat Thani (Don Sak) and get the bike on the slower car ferry..

Thanks for the advice. I have just a honda wave and have no intentions of driving it off from Phuket. I would be interested in the minibus - ferry option though. Is there a regular minibus service to there or would I have to charter one? Does anyone know about how much it should cost for 2 people. Thanks again - db

loads of them.. Think it was 650 supposed to be all inclusive but then at donsak there was a scam that we could buy a new ticket for the fast boat for another 200 or something..
Sure we had a ticket but that was going to be on slow boat / car ferry taking hours longer..
Suss that exact point (fast boat) and also super stress no connection / transfer in surat (having been left there to sit idly for a couple of hours each time).. There is a bus that does the route Phuket to DonSak and fast boat in one go, but its a mystery when booking I find. There is 2 places for the ferrys.. One at Don Sak and one where a foot passenger only (faster boat) goes from.. Again hard to know which one you get.
Any tour company here can book you the journey.. Expect it to take all day.

Also ask if its going to haad rin or what.. We paid for a phuket to haad rin but when arrived at KPG we were left with another taxi hop to arrange..
Its all pennies but its annoying when you sold the no transfer, fast boat, connect to haad rin.. And then in reality its wait in Surat 2 hours, pay to upgrade boat ticket, pay to get song taow to Haad Rin.. How about the novel idea of just charge me the price and give me the actual service you promise !!!

Thanks again for the info. I think I would like to take the fast boat from Don Sak, but is it worth it with the layover in Surat? Did they just dump you off and a few hours later someone showed up for you? How long of a minibus ride is it? It didn't look too far on the map, but I do understand the pace things move around here. db

Have you ever stayed on Haad Rin during the full moon week? Was thinking of maybe staying on the otherside of the island so I could retire if needed. db

I've been finding a few rooms, but most require a 5 night stay it seems. Is it terribly loud all week long or just the one night?

If your away from the actual sunrise beach then you wont hear it..
Sunset beach is fine.. Cocoa bungalows and all the things out that side are silent.. Last 2 times I have been I got there too late but there are some really cool rooms built on a slope out round past the lighthouse / rock light.. You have to walk 300 maybe 500m round this strange rickety broken down walkway built over the sea rocks.. I reckoned that would be close to town (10 mins walk) yet isolated and quiet also..
I cant remember its name.. They would probably be expensive compared to the cheaper haad rin rooms.. But they would be my no 1 pic if I was to head back..

I travelled Phuket to Samui last Sept , stayed at Als Bungalows at Chalong then ferry at Big Buddah to Phangan for Full Moon Party. I just went via mini bus that I booked at Patong on street tour shop. The mini bus trip was sh*t scary ( Crazy Thai driver)and it took all bloody day. On the way back we caught a coach which was more comfortable. One bit of advice if you are staying on Samui and you are just going to Phangan for the FMP is to book a speedboat back from Phangan in the morning. Most likely you will be sh*t tired from drinking all night and the main ferry doesn't leave until about 8.30am. You will probably want to get back to a good bed at about 5am when the speed boats start lining up to go back. You will have a great time. Have a couple of buckets for me. Cheers
