Marc26...
As you may recall, I stayed in the Hilton, Hua Hin on a previous trip.
In late January, I spent another 6 days in Hua Hin...this time, I parked at the Marriott.
I had no choice, really. When I tried to book, in October 06', ALL hotels in Hua Hin were booked full. (Dang' high Season!) My first choice was the Hilton. Placed a phone call...and, was only told the same. Hilton was FULL on those dates. I called the Marriott...and was told that they were booked full, except for their "Penthouse Suite", at $590 (USD) per night. Well, forget that!
I was thinking of bypassing Hua Hin, because of non availablitiy of rooms. Then, like (magic)...I hit a "lucky hand", at the gaming tables! The biggest jackpot Ive ever hit...and "big buck's"! Rather than continue gambling, and likely lose back all the winnings.....I quit, and took my $$$$ home. (first time smart, in a long time 5555)
The next day, I contacted the Hua Hin Marriott, and booked the Penthouse Suite. I gave a credit card number, and paid the room (most) in advance, to secure the booking! When my credit card was charged (for 6 nights stay), I then payed the card down, with my gambling winnings. (smart again??) Really, this was just a small fraction of my "winnings". Otherwise, I never would have payed that amount for a room, in LOS.
Below, are some photo's from the Marriott.
My impression (and my GF's), of the hotel as follows.
Chocked full of (old) farang couples. I mean, I even felt young there!5555
Malee says, "Only old people in this hotel, because it is so expensive! Young people not have big money, for this." A good observation.
It was very windy for 3 or 4 days (30 to 40 mph gusts), and didn't spend much time on the beach, or at the pool. Water was too rough at the beach. And, too many (ugly) farang's at the pool.
Just tried restaurants, once or twice...standard fare, I guess.
The service (of course) was very good, as is normal for a Marriott.
Given the choice, I'd rather stay at the Hilton. Rooms are equally nice, and the location is much better.

Just a couple of more pic's to add, from Hua Hin Marriott.
Also, some shots of the "Celtic Bar". A fun place to hang out.
1. View of beach from room
2. Different view from room
3. Beach lookin North
4. Beach looking South.
5. Celtic bar games
6. More Celtic bar games
7. Real nice gal's at this bar
All in all, I still prefer the Hilton, Hua Hin.

Hey Pablo, nice photos.
I was in Hua Hin last December, and I agree with the comment that there are a lot of older farang couples there
I was one of the few single men walking around town, and I suppose that made me quite popular in some areas
I was flabbergasted to find a Lolita's in Hua Hin. Really didn't think it was the type of town to sustain one. I don't think they were doing great business.
I thought the food, in general, in Hua Hinwas excellent. Especially the seafood. It is probably my favourite thing to take away from the town.
To other BMs, in my opinion it is a great place to take a lady friend for a relaxing couple of days.

Hi Bello.
As you say, it is a real laid back place to go relax, with your "squeeze". 5555
But, there are also opportunities there, for the sexpests.5555

I guess my decision has been made for me
My gf's son starts his school break next week
She asked him what he wanted to do
He said go HH and go big pool with Jim!!!
Funny he said Jim(he's a bm,jimbulljag) cuz jim was staying at hilton when we went and we used the pool
Have a question. HH is like our "family" spot. Her mom and son come and we hang out 2-3 days
I told my gf that I can't pay for a room at hilton for them and will get them a good room for, say, 1000baht, near our hotel
Do you think that's being cheap?
My gf totally thought it was an ok idea

GUYS this is not meant as criticism its just that as someone who spent there first visit to huahin at the hilton (someone else was paying ) and have now made 9 subsequent visits to hh staying at the jed pee nong and thippurai city dont understand why anyone would pay the huge room rates for these places when you can get a very high quality room at the 2 hotels i mentioned for half the money. just as close to bhintabat and the beach both with good swim pools.
the marriot is on the road leading out to hat/thip village past the royal garden complex i think !

tommy,
no problem giving your opinion. i just looked at both hotels and they are not even close to the same category or class of a big western hotel like Marriott or Hilton
they look nice enough, but i like the extras of a big hotel. plush towels, great linens. i like a nice resort like pool that the hilton offers
i honestly dont even think you can compare the hotels to Hilton
one little gem i stayed at in Hua Hin my 1st time a week after tsunami was the Navy Hotel that borders the King's estate
it is actually on the navy base there and pretty nice directly on the beach with a huge pool. it was 1000baht during high season. have to take a 2minute tul-tuk ride to the center of action

FAIR ENOUGH comment
but its just that i have to work too many hours to have my trips to los and the thought of just paying the exhuberant prices asked for by sofitel/hilton/marriot doe snot appeal to me neither does living in a doss house so i tend to go for middle of the road hotels with good central location for room cleanliness and maid service/towels sheets etc you would struggle to beat the jed pee nong beds changed every day towels changed 2 times a day.
the only hotel approaching a doss house i stay at is the nana in bangkok for obvious reasons 55555555
nice pics pablo the last pic with the two girls from celtic bar i know the girl on the right she was a friend of my last l/t girlfriend .
celtic bar is one of my two favourite bars in huahin the other being the happy toro bar .

fair enough tommy
there are some very nice middle of the road hotels in Thailand, especially in the beachy areas
i work pretty hard and am out most nights entertaining(which seems a blast, and can be, but gets tough going out everynight)
so on holiday i like complete luxury
you should have seen the flea-pit i stayed in last year in Hua Hin
i had my dog with me so had to stay in a backpacker place

I CAN imagine mark ! i have often been in the maharajah indian restaurant in hua hin and witnessed the scruffy looking gits looking for rooms in the cheap guest houses in that street ! your dog would be the smartest living thing in that place apart from yourself of course 5555555

THE ONLY REASON i stopped going to the jed pee nong was simple i always had the room next to the pool with the large double bed and all the girls from toro bar especially knew where i stayed so it was a regular occurrence for them to just walk through reception and turn up at my room and as i was with my long term g/f at the time it used to p iss me off dont mind two girls or even 3 in my room as long as they are prepared to get naked 555555
so now stay at thippurai city i just love the pool on the 5th floor roof there where you get peace and can get good food and cheap beer at the pool

I didn't know one could gamble in Phuket? What kind of games can one play and where? This sounds awesome!

My choice is Hilton.
The Hilton is right in the heat of the action, where you can walk to numerous restaurants, shops, bars, etc. It also has a lively brewpub that had a great band when I was there. Great service and excellent breakfast, and the inhouse exercise room was good too. Not much of a beach there though, and its a highrise hotel with very long walks from some of the rooms to the elevators. My only real issue with the Hilton was that the chairs in my room were exremely uncomfortable and the mattress was very had.
The Mariott is south a bit, and you're captive to the resort unless you rent a car or hire a ride into town. Looked like a nice beach though. I didn't stay there, but did go there just to visit the spa when I was staying at the Hilton (the Hilton also has a decent spa, but its in the high-rise interior and not much atmosphere). The Mariott spa was the best I've ever been to anywhere (beating my previous favorite in Bali). After 3 days of serious golf, I got an incredible sports/Swedish massage package that included a private steam bath and shower in an open-air garden. Absolutely awesome! While there I asked to check out some hotel rooms for future reference, but wasn't impressed. I'd call the rooms 4 star at best. Looked very similar to the Mariott Royal Garden in Pattaya. I'm guessing the Pattaya and HH Mariotts were previusly part of the Royal Garden group before becoming affiliated with Marriott.
So my recommendation is stay at the Hilton but visit the Marriott Mandara spa.

I agree with you, in saying that the rooms are probably 4 star, at the Marriott. The Hua Hin Marriott Spa, however, is very nice.
You are correct, in that both Hua Hin and Pattaya were Royal Garden properties, before being acquired by Marriott.
The Hua Hin Marriott, however, is not so far so as to need a car. It's only a 3or 4 minute tuk tuk ride (40thb), to the Hilton.
