Etihad prices up
Now you all know me lads - money is easy come and easy go. However, I can't help but notice that Etihad's prices have gone up significantly from last year.
I am comparing the cost of my flight Dec 27th 2006 (£450) with the online prices (e-bookers etc.) for 27th dec 2007 (£620 ).
I know that departure tax has increased (maybe even the 700baht at BKK is now included). But why has it gone up so much?
I think I may have found a decent flight from Manchester with Emirates for £550 or so).
Any Etihad experts on the forum?

I am looking at prices and what I just paid for Etihad (450 quid) They want 620 quid for August.
I just went onto www.expedia.co.uk and I did find flights in the 450 range still though. Qatar was 450 on expedia

You might find that now Etihad is now an established airline, remember they are only about 3 /4yrs old, they now feel they have built up a client base, and no longer need to offer reduced fares to fill their planes?
Its only my guess though. Also, they know that all flights will be fully booked over the Xmas period so they can charge the same as other airlines.
If you want a flight for a similar price,(£450 ish) check out Qatar on Expedia and see what thay are charging. About the cheapest around I know of.
Edit Just spotted sarsbuk post above this with same info.

Etihad's flights from and to Bangkok from Abu Dhabi was ram packed..... but Abu Dhabi to London and vice versa was empty. I had 3 whole seats to myself last night and most passengers were in there own rows also!!!!
Still wouldn't bump me up a class though!!!

Qatar at Chrimbo/NY are also more expensive than previous year.
I think that you are cporrect about the Etihad flights Roger - they may have been a bit of a loss leader in the past.
Generally, peak season in LOS was busier than usual this year just gone (flights and hotels, maybe not bars), so the companies have upped their prices.

I have found that Etihad prices are higher too. My guess is they have reduced the number of "cheap" seats, so you have to plan ahead a little. I know that coming from Paris my most recent ticket cost me 830 euros but I needed really specific dates. Had I been more flexible, I could have had something in the upper 600's. Still, the days of the less than 500 euro r/t seem to have flown away...unless maybe on Gulf Air or, erp, Aeorflot???
What I like about Etihad is you can usually book a one-way ticket back to Europe (from BKK) at a fairly reasonable price. Getting off topic, the Thaiairways.com site sometimes offers some great flights o/w or r/t to London from BKK in their superdeals specials. (but heads up, thaiair.com and thaiairways.com are sometimes out of sync so check both if you are looking for the deals....).

Sorry, that's for 12 Nov. You're not likely to do any better than 550 at Xmas time.

i think all the airline prices fluctuate all through the year, even though you are leaving about the same time i don't think it makes a difference about the price, other airlines will be cheaper but next year will prob be more expensive compared to other companies.

Yep, that is my conclusion at the moment.
I'd prefer to book early and know that I was sorted rather than wait in the hope of a cheaper flight.

I always use expedia to book my flights, they always come up trumps for me, cheapest flight was Jan/Feb trip which I have just come back from, £370 incl, expedia special rate. After reading these posts I must have got lucky, however my next trip end of May, I have just booked my flights with hotel combined (where I usually stay) flying with Gulf Air (with a stop off in a field of goats somewhere) my 2 week trip is £549 incl of flights/hotel/all taxes. I have to say I am impressed with expedia to date.
I think the taxes for security and emissions penalties are having to be passed on to the customer but at least it's still pretty affordable considering the distance from UK.

Depends on when in Jan you flew - anything after the first week and prices will be low. Have a look at the same date next January, and let us know how it compares.

yep try .....travel-money supermarket, search engine for a big majority of agents, might help.
my eva flights have gone up ,but not as much as youve stated.
but maybe different times of year poss........
i was paying all through the year(last year and before)no more that £425 direct with eva, highly reccomend, givin the exception of late booking around peak-dec-jan,which could be anything........but now im paying £498,so its gone up a little, but still a deal in my eyes,i waited a bit to see if that would come down, but cant see it with the tax and stuff now,if anything im lookin at prices for the same trip and its gone to £600+.

I wouldn't touch Jordanian whatever the price.
Remember when we met and we discussed using Manchester, and I said that the times of the flights did not suit me? well, I've found an evening departure, so tomollow when I am in work, I shall enquire about time off next NY/January

Bloody Hell you blokes plan ahead.........I usually book mine about six or seven weeks before lift off.
For the sake of a hundred or so quid why all the fuss, that amount of money is gone in no time once you get there.
