accomodation costs patong
Hi all,
I was trying to get a room in Patong in April before Songkran and the prices that i have been quoted would indicate there has been a substantial price rise.
C&N were a 1,100 where they used to be 500 and the same for Andaman Sea guest house 1,000 previously 450 in low time.
Is it still classed as low time or is 1,000 the price for the cheaper places now.
I know that the cheaper places used to jump to around 1,000 or even 1,500 in some cases around Xmas but these figures for this time of year seems high to me.
Has there been a jump in accommodation prices?
Thanks for any input

Most hotels charge high season fee's to end of April, low season officially starts in May. And the hotels have been well booked this season and still is.

C&N, like most of the Patong accom, has High, Mid & Low seasons. In Dec/Jan the rack rate was 1,500, but as I stayed 5 weeks I only paid 1,000. April rack rate is 1,000, but again for a 3 week stay I'm only paying 850. I paid 800 last April, so there has been some increase. Not entirely unexpected as the place recovers fully 'post tsunami'. I paid 600 last August which was low season. Don't now what the rack rate was then.

Im booked in at the end of march at the time of booking the price was 1100bht a night .I recieved a email from my friend who is there now just to let me know the price has gone up 200bht more per night..as I wasnt required to make a deposit at the time I will have to pay the goin rate.Im not overly concerned only a couple of bucks extra, I like the hotel so I will pay, these things happen everywhere I suppose when they have 100% occupancy at the hotel Im staying at. I would probaly do the same thing myself given the chance

I paid a deposit voluntarily when I was last there in Jan. She quoted 1,000 baht but then gave me 15% off because I'm there from 4th to 24th April. I do stay there a lot though, probably 9 weeks a year. And even if I go up north or to BKK for a few days I still keep and pay for the room. Have even let a few of the Black Crab girls stay in it whilst I'm away. And I can trust them not to use it for business ...

I was in Phuket a couple of months ago, and unfortunately damn right prices do seem to be up. After the tsunami they went down a bit, but Phuket is fully recovered and the prices are higher than ever. Add to that the baht is up, and the value proposition isn't what it used to be. Still a great place to be, though.
What pissed me off most was the tuk tuk drivers wanted 300-400 baht for a trip between Patong and Karon! I can get a nice air conditioned taxi between Suvarnabhumi and Sukhumvit for that price. I did manage to talk one down to 200 once during a slow period in late afternoon, but otherwise none would even consider.

Is that the hotel at the bottom of Soi Sansabai?
It was being renovated when I was there in December, but looked like it was almost finished.
Looked pretty good, and big too. Maybe even an escalator!

Just go to their respective websites and they give you the season tiered rack rates right there. Here is the one for C&N:

thanks
Looks like the 500 baht days are gone.
Hmm add the increased rooms LIL saying that even now motor cycle taxis are getting expensive and threatening towards Thai girls, what are they trying to do drive business away?
If it is like last time i was there in a busier time even the girls had put their prices up. If accommodation getting more expensive, transport more expensive, girls getting more expensive, not good. At least Nicke's drink prices are the same and the hospitality is the same great level, maybe MTB is the oasis for us to drink and complain at LOL.
Guess maybe i have been spoiled by Pattaya, Philippines and maybe trip after this one it is time to check out Cambodia and the Philippines again.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
Cheers Steve

not that one
Andaman Sea GH is in Soi Andaman Square just past Cristins massage on the left and it has a lift.
Is run by Flo a Canadian and is a nice helpful guy. I think that they are good value rooms, far better than the old C&N rooms IMHO.
Phone 076-292816-7 if any are interested. I found that you can sleep here, just in case you need to in your mongering.
Cheers Steve

Thanks Nicke,
I must be getting old and confused as to when i was there and what prices i paid for when.
That explains the higher prices.
Cheers and see you soon for a black death or three.
Steve.
