Refunds
Has anybody tried to get a refund from Air Asia, and how long did it take?
Its looking very much like I'm going to have to cancel my Air Asia flight on 28/3 and return on 16/4 going by info received from another BM.
Not knowing 100% they are going back to Don Muang is really awkward now. My international flight from London arrives at Suvurambhumi at 07 30 and I have a connection to Phuket at 10 50. I don't think I can risk keeping with this flight if I have to get to Don Muang. If it were just me, I wouldn't mind, but there are 6 of us at an unfamiliar airport. The next AirAsia flight that day is very late in the day so it looks like a cancel and rebook with Thai Air from the new Airport

No experience with the refund process, and come to that no experience with Air Asia, but I would imagine it would be long winded and high cancellation/processing fees involved.
Just with the convenience of the through transit booking TG straight through, I dont understand why you guys insist on trying to save a few baht in transferring to the LCC's, as it involves so much manual effort on your behalf. I would prefer to spend this time in the lounge or bar.
Would be interest to learn how much you do save on changing to an LCC for the BKK/HKT leg. Would need to be several thousand baht to make it even worth while. Your case is different dawsey with so many in your party.

For me Steve, I saved 21k baht on buying 6 tickets using a LCC. With hindsight it probably wasn't the smartest move I have made, but its done now.
Certainly didn't envisage DMK reopening for a start.
Yes, I'm expecting a heavy penalty for cancelling, and whose fault is it I have to cancel?? Not mine, but I'll pay for it

Looked at Air Asia's web site for refunds. The FAQ clearly states no refunds in any event. See section Lost Baggage & Refunds #2 and Delays and Cancellation of Flights #3 / #5
FAQ Link: Welcome to AirAsia.com...now everyone can fly...

Just read it Lars
Booking of Seats
5.1
Confirmation of Booking: The booking of a Seat is confirmed after full payment of the fare is made and after we issue you a booking number and/or the Itinerary. Once confirmed, the booking cannot be cancelled and payments made are not refundable.
And change of booking is 900 baht per ticket
I need some Rosso, and lots of it
Edit
Also, since I booked, the tickets have now increased in price on one trip. More to pay.
Dammit, I will write off the £250 and learn from it, never ever again book a LCC with conditions like these.

You must have some sort of comeback - flight booked BKK-HKT, they don't do that route, only DMK-HKT, as a last resort contest the charge with CC company ......

Not a bad thought. If the service provider fails to deliver you may be entitled to a refund on that basis. The ticket (contract) you purchased was for BKK. NO flight, no service, ... money back. Would call the credit card company.

I hope so Jonny. Got to try it as I have lost my money if I cancel, and its a long wait until the next Airasia flight. Where is the best place to pick up the taxis? Did I read down one floor from arrivals?

My cousin booked a trip to Chiang Mai, but he didnt want to go due to the bombings back then.
He wrote to Air Asia many many times, and also send them many faxes.
After a couple of months, Air Asia replied, instead of a refund, he got a credit note going to the same destination anytime he wants.

What a nightmare!!!!
I guess this falls under..."you get what you pay for".
Don't mean to be insulting Dawsey, in any way. 21000 baht, is a lot of savings, and I don't blame you at all.
With the LCC, if everything goes perfectly, then it's a good deal. But, hit a snag...it can quickly become a nightmare!
Best of luck, and I hope you make the connex at Don Mueng, OK.
I still owe you a beer
Look forward to seeing y'all (Dawsey's) in April.

Had a cancelled flight x 2 with airasia took about 6 weeks and 3 phone calls to get refund, believe you may also take a credit to be used at later date.
Roger will never use them again, was just lucky had alternate flights booked.

On the flip side, if you do book with Thai Air they are good at giving refunds. I had to refund tickets for friends once and I had the money back in 3 weeks with no BS.

The other thing working in your favour Dawsey is that 90% of Air Asia flights are delayed, (90% is my experience of using them, not a flight plan fact), I'm reckoning that you will make it through to DM in time, with AA you only have to be with them 30 mins before flight as its a domestic.
1 hour to DM even at 8ish in the morning, wonder if anyone on here could organise a minibus for the Dawsey's, with phone number??? so it could be waiting with engine revved, doors open, Rosso in the cooler!!!

Genrally with ticket refunds in my experience, if you can get a refund it takes 3 months if the ticket has not been used and 6 months if it is part used.
There also may be a charge like 1000k or 2000k. With your AirAsia ticket I think you have an excellent claim if they cancel their service to BKK instead going Don Muang. I don't think you will get anything out of Air Asia though. Better with your credit card company or your Travel insurance company, if you don't have any it is not to late to get it as nothings official yet.
Write to the Phuket Gazette. Air Asia would have to reply if your letter was published

45 minutes normally by taxi using the toll road but allow an hour if at busy time as in 8 am ish in Dawsey's case. Still reckon someone could organise a minibus that lives in BKK and would give them then plenty of time (asuming no baggage lost etc)
