Thanks Dawsey.. I saw that one... I have asked a few BM's that stayed there but most posts about hotel seem pretty old.

Someone also stayed their from tripadvisor.com and have asked for their views.

Hotels website is http://www.tropica-bungalow.de/main.php?language=en

email - info@tropica-bungalow.com

Location is one block away from Bangla (beach end) and rooms look nice also... They replied to an email of mine saying they are guest friendly also. Any more info I get off hotel I will post here for others.... If there is any BM's out there that have stayed do you recommend hotel???

Not for the same room I guess, but not a bad price. Also, that site seems to want you to pay up front for the whole booking and I would much rather pay for my hotel at my hotel. I think they are more likely to squeeze you for 'extras' if you got a real cheap price through a 3rd party.

Looks good when I just took a look at it. Completely new as it was destroyed by the tsunami. Close to the beach and Bangla.

Same here with that one Steve, I provisionally booked back in February and Nid accepted the booking, but asked me to contact them nearer the time . Anyway, shot them a mail a few days back and havent heard a thing. I am currently looking elsewhere as well as I'm not overconfident in their booking system. I'm sure once you're in its fine, but getting in is the problem. Still fancy Poppa as it looks real nice, but have sent Tropica an enquiry as well as I reckon the location there is much better.

My buddy got Poppa Palace at a good rate, 1375 I think, through sawadee.com. I want to book direct with the hotel.

It looks good but if you can't book it then good looks are irrelevant.

I cant weigh up the different rates with Poppa. Calyid has been quoted 900 baht via an agent, presumably Poppa have to give them a slice of that. Now someone else gets 1375, Steve was quoted 1700, what the heck is going on.

I too want to deal with the hotels direct, cos I feel that cheap rates booked via an agent might not seem so good, if and when the Hotels apply a joiner fee. Not saying they will, but its a possibility that can be avoided by speaking direct with the hotel.

I'm just waiting to see what Tropica come back with before I make my final choice. But hey, I'm there in just over a week, I may just turn up and bargain with them face to face. If Poppa can do 900 baht via an agent, surely they can do that for me as well, or even cheaper depending on my bargaining skills

I cross the high/low season line so would have gotten the lowere - 1375 - rate for the last part of my stay. The 900 rate was probably a standard room, my quote was for deluxe.

I am going in August.

Discount Asia Hotels: Hong Kong Hotels, Singapore Hotels, Thailand Hotels, Vietnam Hotels, Australia Hotels. Reserve your rooms Now! and Hello Phuket Hotel : book now your room in a Phuket hotel (island in Thaïland) seem to give good rates.

You will find that the agents always have better rates than the hotels themselves

I even found this when I was talking directly to the girls at reception who just would not budge in price, Even when I told them the price was lower on the internet, Happened to me at Sandy Springs and Majestics Suites.. Both times booking through agents saved me from 100-200bht a night for the exact same rooms

I didn't have to pay up front (i've checked my cc and nothing has been charged) the room is delux and booking was confimed last week. good luck, john.

Just the way it looked from the website, you put your dates in and it comes up with a total package price, I didn't go any further than that.

I do have my reasons for wanting to deal direct with hotels rather than through a 3rd party booking agent.

From the atsiam website:

Deluxe TRP
Room Code: HPK197G

Room Rate:
6 Mar 07 - 31 Mar 07 / 2,320 Baht
1 Apr 07 - 31 Oct 07 / 1,550 Baht

Edit:

Looking at that website again, all the rooms look the same. I have no idea what the difference is.

Try the Salathai

3 of us stayed at the Whitesands in September 2006, no pool and they were still building the place with brick and concrete cutters going all day and they are going to build another hotel behind the Whitesands so more noise for years to come. and would not recommend it. I went across the road to the Salathai and was shown around by helpful staff and they have a great pool that you can see while sitting at the bar across the road and girl friendly and no joiner fee and clean etc.
I was going to book the Salathai for my next trip( I will be leaving in 4 days for a 2 week holiday with 3 mates) but they had already booked the Expat as it is handy to Bangla etc. and they confirmed they have a pool and are girl friendly!
There are some great girls in the bars around the Whitesands and Salathai but they are all great with their pants down!

Quick update, got an e-mail back from poppa palace- if you booked for a single or a double with 2 people in the room (seems a bit silly) they charge a one time fee of baht 500 inc breaky. if it's a double with 1 person (much better) they DON'T charge a joiner fee! So even with my baht 500 extra at baht 900 p/day it only works out to about baht 940 p/day. So that leaves plenty of savings for Tiger beer! Hope this helps, cheers.
