White Sand Resortel Vs Poppa Palace
Hi All
I am shopping round for my next trip to Patong in August.
I am down to 2 hotels and was wondering if anyone can help with my decision process.
White Sand Resortel - Sawadirak Road (Beach end)
Poppa Palace - Soi Jintana.
They both claim to have swimming pools which is a must.. and appear pretty nice.
Just wondering if anyone has stayed or been to hotels and know if GF, and what the hotels are like.
Help is appreciated as usual

Seen both but stayed at neither.
Why not book a few days at one of them and see how you get on, if you like it stay put. If you don't like it go and book a few days at the other and see how that is. It's low season so rooms will be available.

White Sands Pool??
Simon
Have read reports on White Sands from late 2006 on Sawadee and Hello Phuket Hotels that the WSR pool was advertised but still under construction.
At least you can guarantee the PP pool is complete

Simon
Nicke advised his parents were up for a stay at the Poppa Palace a few months back hopefully he can supply a quick overview?
If June/July isn;t too late for you I intend to take a look and may stay there part of my visit. Let me know if they confirm they are GF - thanks

Poppa Palace have come back to me with 1700baht for mid April, seems a decent price. The rooms look good and it's a great spot.

My parents happy with Poppa palace, its brand new and look very nice. They have lift/elevator so it doesnt matter what floor you stay. I do recall my parents got a bigger balcony on the top floor compared to the lower floors. (Which they had on their last visit in November)

a friend of mine stayed at Poppa Palace and, trust me on this, he would not pay a joiner fee. He does not drink or party at all, so I think you can guess what he comes to thailand for, and he definitely would not stay in any hotel that made him pay a joiner fee.

From my own experiences (although not at the hotels mentioned here) if you pay single occupancy then the hotel tries a lot harder to hit you for the joiner fee. After my first few visits, I gave up on this type of hotel purely for this reason - they were always trying to get a joiner fee out of me, sometimes even if I had paid for double occupancy. If you book through an agency, the hotel just tell you to ask for your money back through the agent, but you still have to pay the joiner fee. Booking directly with the hotel should be different, but then you risk paying inflated prices anyway.
Reading this thread through, it sounds like you should think of seeking an alternative hotel/guesthouse if you are looking to take a BG back for some nighttime olympics. Unless the hotel states in writing (email) beforehand that you wll not be charged and even then I recommend you print off a copy and take it with you.

Yes your right Diz some do, But single occupancy can also mean that you are only allowed one breakfest for that room, They do this in the Majestic Suites in Bangkok, But you are still not charged a joiner fee, I think your only real way of finding out is by emailing them for a definate answer or maybe even ring them and ask them directly... Email would be better though as you will have written conformation just incase they try to pull a fast one when you get to the hotel

Not sure. He never told me because it never came up in the discussion and I can not get in touch with him as he is on a 3 month trip to the Philippines, Cambodia, and Thailand. He left last week.

The prices on Passionasia are a lot better than Poppapalace direct so just book a room for 2 people with them............theoretically that should comply
with their hotel policy as per their email!!!
