From the new to the old airport v.v.
In order to avoid a big time Isaan/LOS blues, I am starting to look into my next trip, which will be most probably in the third week of May.
As we all know by now, a lot of domestic flights will move to Don Muang airport in a week or two, I wonder if any of you can recommend the best way to go from one airport to the other. I have no idea how far they are apart.
Maybe it helps if I get you my intended schedule:
Arrive BKK at 06.40am at Suvarnabhumi (China Airlines) on a Saturday morning followed by
Departure from Don Muang (with Nokair) same day at 12.20pm to Udon Thani.
Arrive back at Don Muang 20.00pm on the next Saturday evening, followed by
Departure from Suvarnabhumi to AMS at 2.25am
Alternatively to Udon Thani, I can use Thai, but they are double the price and the latest flight is back in Don Muang at 23.05pm, which seems to be to short to do the connection. Their earlier flight are too early in BKK.
As you can see, I have plenty of stop-over time of about 6 hours each way. So as far as the time is concerned it should be much of a problem.
But how to go from the old to the new? Taxi? Shuttle bus? What is wise?
All ideas are welcome.

with your layover times shouldnt be a problem.
You would have to think there will be shuttle buses from airport to airport, its about 50 mins drive all being equal but as we know it is LOS.
myself think I would use Taxi.

Guys, I just want to follow up on this thread of mine. Since Don Muang is now back to service for about one month, I just want to know your experiences, so I would appreciate your feedback on: - How to change: by taxi or is there a shuttle service?
- Are the taxis using a meter or do you have to negociate a price?
- How long wil it take to get from one airport to the other? I arrive an early Saturday morning and return on a Saturday evening.
- What kind of prices should I look for?
Thanks for the information!

we were there last week to be honest went from the new airport to Don muang with a driver from the airport and it cost us 1000bht going the other way we went by taxi meter and on the meter ,Bangkok being being Bangkokit was a tad busier but still cost us 1000bht.
the is a free shuttle service but from what i have been told it is not free for nothing and you need a bit of time on your hands.
hope this helps.

I have not taken the direct ride in a Meter Taxi, however, last time I went from the old airport to Sukhumvit at 300 baht including airport fee, tolls and tip. I went from Sukhumvit to the new airport at 250 baht including extras.
The more direct route could not possibly cost more. For reference, I asked the drive what the estimated cost was from old to new airport and he said under 500.

Bus between airports cost 34 baht and took about one hour in fairly heavy traffic.
For your return Air Asia may be better as they still fly to the new airport from Udon (arrive around 7pm) - plenty of time to head into town for a massage or whatever ...

i have never flown air asia, but now the hassle of changing airports may swing me that way.
as was reported on another thread, the problem with connecting flights is costing thai airways customers, but will that worry them i dont think so.
where is the bus caught to travel from suva? to don mueang ?
