Thumbs down Qatar Airways cause big problems

Got the news this morning which is totally stuffing my upcoming trip

Qatar Airways have decided to reschedule their 19 40 flights from BKK - Doha and it now departs at 20 50. That in itself isn't so bad, but I and my party of 5 have been placed on the 08 35 same day flight

I have spent over 1.5hrs on the phone to Expedia, and Qatar Airways telling them that the 08 35 is no use to me, as my Air Asia connection from Phuket lands at 14 20 that afternoon.
I will lose that flight, and the money, have to buy 6 more tickets from HKT to BKK a day earlier, lose one day of my trip, and pay for 6 to stay in a BKK hotel so we can check in early enough for the 08 35 flight
I also have to rearrange my pick-up from LHR from 17/4 back to 16/4 and don't even know if they are available (its already booked and paid for)

Expedia were very good, its not their fault, and they have tried every avenue to get me home but the problem is seats from Doha to London. Qatar, and nearly every other airline is fully booked apart from stupid detours over Moscow and Paris Cheapest flight is now over £1k return per person economy

Qatar on the other hand are severely lacking in customer relations. When I explained the situation, and asked why I have been placed on an earlier flight, their response was to take it up with Expedia
Apparently there are only 4 seats available on the connecting flight Doha - London and I need 6. Naturally I asked about an upgrade for 2 but that fell on deaf ears.

All the possible solutions have been tried, and Qatars response was to get Expedia to put us on the wait list for the 20 50 flight. Not good enough, and I am going to give Qatar some severe grief when I check in. I can see the duty manager being severely harrassed as I am determined to get on that later flight.

Expedia have told me to keep every receipt for extra expenses, and they will claim this from Qatar, and thats good. But it doesn't help with the immediate problem. Claiming on travel insurance is a nono as I already know about the change before I leave. I am a very annoyed customer of Qatar today!

Not having too much luck with this trip mate.

Give them a load of shite at check in or better in Doha on the stopover on the way out.

If no success you might be better just changing the return with Air Asia and paying the 500B (I think thats the figure) alteration fee than cancelling and re-booking.

I always try to book with the airline itself and join the frequent flyer programme first, even if you don't use them again they will always take a little more care of a member. Im a member of 4 now and never used an air mile but I do have 78,000 with KLM than I intend to use this year.

Sorry to hear that Roger.

Remember my 58 hour trip from my home to Phuket last year? Reason for such a long trip was that when I got to checkin at Heathrow, the Qatar staff told me that I had to wait in Doha for 14 hours instead of 2. I had booked a room for an overnight stay in BKK but never used it as I landed at BKK at 8:00 in the morning, rather than 8:00 in the evening the previous day.

4 years ago Qatar changed my flight back by 24 hours. No big deal, but it shows that they seem to chop and change a lot.

This is why I have not, and will not use them again.

i would think if the airline reschedules, wouldnt that be something that you cant control and hence, be entitled for a refund from Expedia, then you may be able to rebook something else?

Appparently my contract is with Qatar, Expedia are only the middle man, and my claim is with Qatar.

Despite telling me that its been "rescheduled" the customer services rep for Qatar was incorrect. It is a cancellation as the flight number has been changed. I have had small changes to the flight times before, which they call a change in itinery, but the flight number is the same.
This is definately a cancellation, and my beef is that we are not on a flight that leaves 1hr 10 later than the cancelled flight. Why am I on one that leaves 8hrs earlier.
That is what I will be asking Expedia tomorrow. They can ring Qatar, as I don't think I would be civil if I speak to them again.
What a way to treat someone with a Gold Priviledge Card!!

Qatar Airlines screwed Roger over, plain and simple.

When they rescheduled the later flight they bumped him to the earlier flight for no reason at all other than the fact that the later flight was oversold and they just arbritarily moved Roger's whole family to the earlier flight as they still have lots of available seats on it. Not the booking agents fault at all. Some Airlines do this all the time, Qatar obviously being one of those that do. In the US they don't bump you but instead offer up vouchers for future travel with big discounts when a flight is oversold.

I have looked at bothe BKK to Doha flights and the later flight is almost sold out while the earlier flight is wide open.

Really too bad when an airline does stuff like this without getting in touch with the customer.

Cheers mate, what with Air Asia will they won't they move, and hotel booking probs this tops it all off. If I were coming alone I could'nt care less, a minor inconvenience. Its the rest of them that are getting messed around that I don't like.

Like you say, hopefully I'll get some joy at Heathrow check in

Hi Roger,

they just screwed you over. so they oversold the Doha to LHR flight and bumped you off of that one. Still not right.

The way some airlines treat people amazes me. Had a group of 24 going on Philippine Airlines from San Francisco to Manila and then on to another island in the Philippines.

We ticketed them, all is well. Called them 48 hours before departure, all is well.

Group leader decides to be safe and leaves for SFO airport very early. Gets to airport 5 hours before departure with group. Walks up to counter and is told by Philippine Airlines that his flight has been cancelled and he is on the earlier flight, which is leaving 3 hours earlier than his scheduled flight did. Group had a 4 hour drive to get to SFO. If they had left later they would have missed their flight. Philippine Airlines never called me or the group leader. They did not give a damn. This also caused them a 3 and 1'2 hour longer layover in Manila before their flight to the other island. Did Philippine Airlines care? Not a bit. They could have smoothed everything over with a $10 per person breakfast voucher. Would have cost the airlines $240 for some good will. Did they do it? of course not.

Needless to say, the 300 people that I have sent to the Philippines in the last 16 months have all flown Cathay Pacific since this incident. That is almost $300,000 that it has cost Philippine Airlines because they did not have anyone who cared enough to inform us of the flight change.

55555555 I bet you do!

If the worst happens and we have to take the early flight, then there will be no hotel in BKK. We are going out on the town that night and straight to the airport for 5 30am checkin

Don't know if it's the same with Qatar , but with Emirates there is a special "Gold Card" contact number. You could try phoning/e-mailing them , it may give your complaint/request a bit more status.

Also , quote their own Gold 'benefits' , as listed on their website, your tickets may not be "full economy fare" but it's still worth a try.

Quote:
Guaranteed Economy Class seat

As a Gold member, if you are unable to buy a ticket because all classes of travel are sold out, Qatar Airways will guarantee you an Economy Class seat, provided you book a full economy fare and your booking is made at least 48 hours in advance of the flight.

Quote:
Priority waitlist

If you wish to get on a Qatar Airways flight which is full, you will be put on a waitlist and given priority should a seat become available.

Edit : Don't bother dealing with their U.K office , contact their head office direct.
