BKK-HKT/HKT-BKK - Which BKK Airport???

Gazette reports potentially confusing now that Thai and some LCC will be flying to/from BOTH BKK airports ....

Phuket Gazette - online English newspaper for Phuket, Thailand, with daily news, classified ads, yellow pages, business listings, upcoming events, event calendar, phuket events

Nothing confusing about that article if you fly Thai (4 digit flights go from Don Muang) or Nok (all flights go from Don Muang).

Unless you are trying to book flights and are not sure which airport they are leaving from.

Turns out you need to specifically select Don Muang.

I just received an email from Thai Airways. It was to notify me, that my flight's, to/from BKK/HKT/BKK...had been cancelled. (early April)

Next, the notification said that my booking had been changed to reflect the NEW flight numbers. (three digit) Which means, both flights (to/from), will be from BKK. (not DMK)

The flight itinerarie's are the same, as I had previously booked. Only the flight numbers changed (to 3 digit), to reflect the reopening of DMK.

I lucked out, in that both of my previously chosen flights, still operate from the new airport. (better for me)

Mmm, maybe I'm missing something here, but, the domestic tab on the Thai site clearly gives you the choice of Bangkok (Don Muang) or Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi). All Thai international flights leave from/arrive at Suvarnabhumi as do all Nok flights. Never fly 1-2-Go so I have no idea.

But you have to know which flights leave from which airport.

Ahh, touche! Sorry, I'm just a simple Aussie who takes things at face value. And I'm paying more attention to the Aus vs SA game.

I put this in another thread but it should go here also. Travel agent rung me up and said my flight to Bangkok from Phuket was going to Don Muang instead of the new airport. Was no problem for me as i am in bangers for a few days anyway before i fly home.... i do wonder why they are doing this. I was under the impression that all Thai flights were gonna fly from new airport.

Awaiting developments....

Thanks for posting this news and link

Just checked and my BKK to HKT Thai flight is from old airport --

Airline Network advise they await final confirmation from Thai air on the policy they intend to impact prior to advising 1000's of bookings

I arrive early enough to take the 8.00 from new airport to HKT but Airline Network aren't moving anyone around as yet

Thankfully my homeward flight is HKT - new airport

So much for THAI's past press stuff that ALL Phuket flights would go from new airport

Bring on Sing Air or Malaysia next trip ....

Thats what you want to hear Jonny. Who really fancies an hours drive to Don Muang for a flight to Phuket after 12+ hrs in the air

Bangkok Air really are my preferred airline inside LOS.

Not looking forward to a cross city trip - anyone know how much a trip between airports should cost?

Looking at the Thai air press release I don't think they'll be paying.......

cheers

thanks Roger

Not the money just the nusiance factor - I assume its a full immigration check. collect lugage etc at the new airport

The main benefit of a Thai flight has just been lost to me the convience of a straight-through transfer was worth the extra money but seems pointless until this reconstruction is sorted

Bloody steel fixers and Engineers can't get nothing right.....5555

I guess so Dave. It was very handy not to have to collect the luggage and just pick it up in HKT, but thats not the case now with Don Muang departures.
Flights through Singapore are looking a far better option now IMO.

Singapore flights?

Yes there was only £10 difference in price but IRC the Silk Air outward leg from Phuket meant about an 8 hour wait in Singapore for the London flight (I may be confused as relying on my failing memory)

I'm thinking this situation is the ideal opportunity to take a look around Bkk for a few days or may go Patts first then carry own down to Phuket on a one-way ticket....rather than go to Patts half way thro my trip....seems to make the best of a silly situation

Airports to provide bus connection

BBK Post article here:

Bangkok Post : General news

Confusion yesterday and will add to connection times, but at least a shuttle bus is to be provided.

"Bangkok Mass Transit Authority shuttle buses would be provided between Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi, starting today. "

Just to add a bit more confusion , the BBC has an article about Don Muang reopening. Anyone who didn't know better , would read it and assume that all flights to Phuket were from Suvarnabhumi.

BBC NEWS | World | Asia-Pacific | Bangkok's old airport back in use

Quote:
Thai Airways will operate 30 daily domestic flights out of the old airport, including some flights to the northern city of Chiang Mai.

Eleven Thai Airways routes to popular tourist destinations such as Phuket and Krabi will be kept at Suvarnabhumi to make it easier for passengers connecting to international flights, the airline said in a statement.
